About Sri Venkateswara Temple, Wollongong

Located in Helensburgh near Wollongang, the Sri Venkateswara Temple is one of the most popular and impressive Hindu temples in the Southern Hemisphere that attracts visitors and Hindu devotees from all over New South Wales, and the rest of Australia. The temple is beautifully located close to the ocean. It is completely enveloped in the lush green natural beauty of this hamlet and displays traditional Indian architecture. Since Australia is one of those lands that has been inhabited by all cultures and religions, the presence of this Hindu shrine over here is an evidence of the nation’s secularity. After you pay your homage to the deity in this temple, you can also have delectable “prasadam”(sacrament) in its canteen.

  • A great place to experience Hindu culture. There is a great collection of idols of Hindu Gods which I believe is the largest collection in Australia. Definitely a visit for people of all faiths. Hinduism believes in the wellness of people of all faiths and the environment. The incense and other smells inside the temple will energise you and leave you feeling very happy and content. Plenty of parking available and do try the food from the canteen which is run by temple volunteers.

  • Great peaceful temple, incredible architecture and atmosphere. Be sure to take your shoes off and walk inside to fully appreciate it. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

  • One of the few well built and maintained places of Hindu worship in Australia, although, people of different faiths often visit as there is no restriction on access. Many people also come to enjoy the authentic South Indian food at very affordable prices.

  • Beautiful, faithful to the makeup of Hindu temples (seen many around the world to compare to) and many choice of gods for devotees to pay respects to. The canteen is amazing, serves genuine and premium Indian vegetarian food, but possibly best of all, the priests and volunteers are completely friendly toward any visitor, no matter what colour or religion.

  • Awesome place. Peace. Surrounding. If you plan to go, make sure you keep enough time for blessings rather to have food in canteen.
