The John Denver Sanctuary is a 4-acre wilderness right in the midst of downtown Aspen. Situated on the banks of the Roaring Fork river, this sanctuary is the home of the largest perennial flower garden in Aspen. In summer, the sanctuary lends itself as a stage to provide live entertainment during the Theatre Aspen. All throughout the sanctuary, you will see engraved landscape rocks with quotes and lyrics of songs performed by John Denver. This is one of the top spots for a picnic in Aspen. Visitors are often seen relaxing and soaking up the sun near the rocks. There is a wetlands filter system formed amidst the perennial garden that is considered to be one of the most environmentally sound processes. Head to the sanctuary for a lazy afternoon in summer.

John Denver Sanctuary, Aspen Reviews - Write a Review
What a serene place. I grew up listening to John Denver and it was a nostalgic visiting this place. Nice quotes and lyrics of John Denver songs are engraved on the stones. Couldn't find my favorite song ' country road, take me home' thought. A great place for a day out and just relax. Was sad that we had to leave after half an hour since we were out of town visitors.
I am not much for manicured spaces but this place is really well done. Awesome little alcoves and corners with beautiful stream and vegetation. Very picturesque. Great for shoots. And it's free. Must see if you are in Aspen.
The was a beautiful experience, was so many spirit totem rocks here and very spiritual. A Indian medicine wheel.
Beautiful park. Water, foliage and rock are masterfully combined to create an environment that invites one to stay and take everything in. Then, the lyrics and other inspirational quotes feed the mind with promise and possibility.
Beautiful, scenic part of Aspen. A great tribute to join Denver,to his music and to his love of nature.
