Opened in 1956 it was one of the first botanical garden in People’s Republic of China. The garden contains about 8000 species of flora and is ranked as the largest biodiversity park in Central China. Spread out over 70 hectares the place also contains many theme sections. They are Aquatic Plant Garden, Rare Endangered Plant Garden Chinese Gooseberry Garden, Ornamental Garden, Tree Garden, Pine Cypress Garden and Bamboo Garden. Not only this but the Botanical Garden actively conducts seminars and research programmes to spread more awareness among the people. The Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences research centre is adjacent to the garden. They also have many foreign exchange programmes with as many as 44 countries.
