It takes four to six hours to complete this 6.5km hiking route. Beginning at Swallow’s Grotto, it’s one of the most grueling and most beautiful walks in the country. However, it’s not technically challenging. And the hard work pays off! It has incredible vistas of the Taroko Gorge and the Liwu River. The trails takes you past Jhuilu Cliff, the bridge over Liwu River, and past remnants of old civilization. The 500-meter stretch across the Zhuilu Cliff is one of the most adrenaline pumping experiences Taiwan has to offer. Most of the trail has barely enough room to for two people to stand abreast, so be careful.

• The coordinates for the trail head are at Swallow’s Grotto (Zhuilu Suspension Bridge): 24°10'22.4"N 121°34'01.4"E
• Trail will close if there is heavy rain.
• Book your trail permit well in advance. Only 96 visitors are allowed during weekdays and 156 during weekends. The permit must be checked in when entering and checked out with exiting.
• Before visiting, make sure to check the trail conditions from the Taroko National Park website.

• 100TWD for kids 6-11 years old

• The trailhead is only open from 7am to 10am. You must enter within this time.
• You MUST exit by 5pm or search parties will be sent to look for you.

• Buses to Luoshao, Lishan, Tiansiang leave Hualien Train Station at 6.30am, 8.40am, 10.50am and 1.50pm and stop Taroko Visitor Center. Price is roughly 170 NTD.
• Take a taxi from Xincheng Taroko Station to the Park entrance.
• The Tour Taiwan (Taiwan is OK) Taroko Bus leaves Hualien train station 7 times a day between 7.50am and 3:00pm and goes to Tienhsiang, which is in the park.
• Hire a scooter from Hualien station using an internationally-valid driving licence and your passport details.
