Full of vivid colours, Grand Prismatic Spring is nature at its best. Located in the Midway Geyser Basin, the spring is the park’s largest hot spring. It measures approximately 370 feet in diameter and is over 121 feet deep. The vivid colours in the spring are the result of pigmented bacteria in the microbial mats that grow around the edges of the mineral-rich water.

  • Absolutely amazing!! We saw the area pretty early in the morning and due to the weather conditions the spring was very steam covered. The colors reflected/refracted into the steam. This is definitely a must do. If you have the time also hike up to the overlook.

  • WOW WOW WOW!! Early bird gets the worm! The parking lot is super packed so park where you can on the designated sides of the road. Make sure you hat, sunglasses, scarves, basically any loose items are SECURE. It is very windy up there and we saw so many hats in the springs and water bottles and TRASH. Let's all be better about this. We are lucky we can experience this. There are bison that graze through, don't get to close! They're awesome to view!! The springs/geysers were absolutely stunning. It almost seems fake! Don't mind that egg smell! Nothing like good ole sulfur in the morning! Have fun up there and don't forget to be in the moment!!

  • Didn’t get to see the colors as well as was hoped but the weather was certainly unique! Billowing gusts of warm air, like pulling towels fresh out of the dryer, made the boardwalk trail a lot of fun. 🤗

  • No words or pictures will ever do your first sight of the Grand Prismatic Spring in real life any justice at all. The colours are just mind blowing and are magnified 10x if you manage to see them when it’s clear and sunny. The difference between seeing the spring in shadow versus seeing it in bright sunlight is just indescribable. I have tried to convey this in my pictures by taking them in bright sunshine and also when the sun was behind a cloud. None of my pictures have been edited, they have been taken straight from the camera and hopefully you can get some idea of just how colourful and beautiful this place is I would highly recommend that you see it from the lower level first and then walk up to see it from the upper gallery which is a 0.9 mile walk from the Fairy Falls Trail Parking Lot. It is definitely worth every single step of the 1.8 mile round trip though.

  • Grand prismatic spring is one of the main reason to visit Yellowstone. Sunny day makes the view better. Entire place stink due to hydrogen sulphide. Better if you could carry some kind of mask. Even though it is not harmful, i started feeling burning sensation on face.
