Old Faithful Inn, Yellowstone National Park Reviews
The Inn itself may be the most remarkable hotel in America; I've traveled pretty widely and never found or heard of any place to beat it. We stayed 4 nights in the Old House in May 2018 and it was much as it has been on my prior visits (first was in 1962) and the rooms were comfortable and the music in the afternoon and evenings was stellar! If you stay here, be sure to take the tour of the Inn, and try to get a room in the Old House (not unreasonable at $140). However, the food was uniformly a disaster. This has not been the case in the past. Our breakfast in the dining room featured dirty dishes, cold scrambled eggs and French toast, and burnt weak coffee. If a health inspector had come they would have been in trouble. Our dinner in the Bear Pit featured a McDonald's-quality hamburger for $16 and a waiter who seemed not to know we existed and who left entirely halfway through our meal. So, for the rest of our stay we used the dining facilities at the Snow Lodge (which are quite good) or got snacks and coffee at the deli and one of the general stores. But the Inn itself remains an extraordinary experience.
This inn is absolutely incredible! Driving up seeing the geyser and inn is an amazing sight. Your jaw will drop as you step inside and are greeted by soaring ceilings and all the wood and logs that were used to build the inn. Our room was so pretty and very comfortable. I loved going down to grab a coffee in the morning and taking in the beautiful sights and seeing the geyser erupt from the front porch! What a trip!
One star. No joke. Not kid friendly at all. It's like reliving all the worst parts of living in a college dorm. Paper thin walls where you can hear conversations clear as day. There was even a crack in our wall you could see light from the other room! Someone playing guitar. Communal showers and toilets. Loud people in the hallway. Minimal power plugs. No elevators. Doors are really hard to open, you need two hands to do it. Parking far away. And expensive. The only redeeming value is the proximity to the geyser. But for me, once you've seen it, you don't get much from seeing it again.
My husband and I had a terrific time time traveling by staying at the Old Faithful Inn. The quaint little room was a perfect hub for us as we explored the park over the course of 4 days. The bathroom down the hall was beautiful in marble and antique tile, and we had a sink in the room for brushing teeth and getting ready. We would definitely suggest you bring shower shoes, but overall would recommend this stay to friends for an experience they cannot find anywhere else.
We stated in the newer part of the hotel. The person above us paced the entire night and it was very loud. The rooms font have much sound insulation so we heard a lot of what our neighbors were up to. The rooms are not really as nice as we were expecting for the price. It was convenient and the staff was great. I just don't think the room lived up to the expectations of staying at such an amazing place.
