Garni Temple is an important historical site located in Garni. Its history dates back to the 1st century AD and an icon of Paganism in Armenia. It was destroyed in a 1679 earthquake and subsequently forgotten. However later in the 20th century it was excavated. Between 1969 and 1975 it was extensively reconstructed. Khosrovidukht, the sister of Tiridates III saved this temple from Christian crusaders who destroyed most other Pagan temples. The surroundings of this temple are quite picturesque and certainly worth a visit. Head out to this temple for an informative and enjoyable day out.
