About Original Ghost Walk Of York, York
The Snickelways of York, often misspelt Snickleways, are a collection of small streets and footpaths in the city of York, England. The word Snickelway was coined by local author Mark W. Jones in 1983 in his book A Walk Around the Snickelways of York, and is a portmanteau of the words snicket, meaning a passageway between walls or fences, ginnel, a narrow passageway between or through buildings, and alleyway, a narrow street or lane. Although the word is a neologism, it quickly became part of the local vocabulary, and has even been used in official council documents, for example when giving notice of temporary footpath closures.Wikipedia

Our guide, Mr. Graham, was much more excited about collecting the money than about delivering an amusing experience. He seems to be burned out on the business and was preoccupied with taking calls on his cellphone at several points along the walk. The stopping places were mostly not well chosen; when we took this same walk years ago we were at least taken to some spooky secluded places. The stories were quite few and were disjointed and mostly did not involve any actual accounts of ghosts. Several times he sort of lost his focus and wandered off the story and never really came to the point. At one point he started to talk about the Shambles but never really finished his explanation. The free York walking tour was far and away a better experience. I would not spend my money on this tour if I had it to do again. There is a great deal of historical material in York to draw from but Mr. Graham really didn't use it to his advantage.
Well worth the £5 each. Lasted 1.5 hours. Got to thank Pat for an enjoyable night.
Great experience, total fun. The guide made the stories live. Very good value.
Pat made the ghost walk fun & interesting despite torrential rain. Excellent value for 1.5 hours & shows how good he was that we all stayed on till the end despite being soaked!!
Really great tour with Pat! Good insight into history with a bit of local humour. £5 for adults and £3 for children, takes about 1.5h for the whole experience and takes you around the crown court, Clifford tower, coppergate, the shambles and the minster, great way to take in the sights
