Situated in the scenic countryside, Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is a one of a kind tribute to the development of aircrafts through the ages and the men and women who served in British Air Forces.

The museum was opened to the general public in the 1980s with the aim of generating awareness about the history of aviation in the country. Apart from holding exceptional exhibitions, the Yorkshire Air Museum also has its own film production and publication department.

Over 20 buildings are dedicated to a variety of detailed displays on Air Force uniforms, Air Gunners, the Bomber Command, RAF, the Officer’s Mess, Royal Observers Corps etc. You can check out the Control Tower that has been fully restored to its wartime design. The museum has a commendable collection of military vehicles and fighter planes that were operated in World War Two and during the Cold War.

  • Wonderful place, full of interest & very well set out - similar style to Eden Camp, in separate 'huts'. Staff pleasant & helpful. Bomber Command exhibition particularly well done...leave plenty of time to see the film. We didn't get to see all the museum as our time was limited, so plan to return as ticket can be used again within 12 months. We thought the memorial garden a fitting tribute.

  • While on travel, one of our team members suggested a visit to the air and railway museums in the York area. The Air Museum was a nice drive outside of the city and featured many vintage planes from the WW2 era. It was well worth the visit!

  • Great place to visit with boys. Lots of history from first plane by the Wright brothers to Buccaneer jets. With wartime music playing as you visit the displays. Great little naffi where you can get a bite to eat. Surprised by the size of "real" bombs especially the earthquake bomb. Well worth a visit.

  • We went here on Monday with our two little boys and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! It was amazing to see the Dakota running! I can't believe how many planes are actually there and how much history comes with them. What a great trip we had here. Would highly recommend!

  • Great place. The kid loved being up close to the planes and being able to sit in some of them blew his mind. 10/10 would visit again
