Maksimir Park And Zagreb Zoo - Review

Named after the man you conceived the park, this place is an excellent family day retreat with meadows, creeks, lakes and woods. It is THE place to relax, and a pretty one: it was landscaped extensively in Baroque, Romantic and Neo-classical styles. Picnic, walk, jog or whatever just chill at the park. Though the park itself has plenty of animals the real deal is the zoo at the southern end of the park. The zoo’s small size allows for better management of the animals who in genera seem happy.  The animals include meerkats, tapis, otters, sea lions, gray seals, lemurs and two humped camels!

  • The perfect place to go to whenever you need a getaway from the city life. When you go deeper into the park, you feel just as if you've travelled far out of the city into the nature. There's lakes with rich animal life (frogs, turtles, ducks, swans), forests with all kinds of trees and flowers, plenty of different birds flying around and chirping, big spacious fields of grass perfect for a picnic, lovely cobble roads, interesting huts or structures, a zoo and whatever I might've forgotten. The main road/entrance also has a really romantic feel to it in the evening, and especially during a snowy winter day. If you're a nature-lover, this might be your no. 1 spot in Zagreb to go to.

  • Really nice park. Lots of people running and enjoying the park. It's a must if you want to enjoy the nature in the big Zagreb without leaving the center. We went for a stroll and ended up in a 2h hike.

  • The best park in the city of Zagreb. Very large although most of people tend to stay close to the entrance or near the lakes. If you venture farther into the forest the trails are well maintained, but you meet very few people. Nature is beautiful and the park is perfect for walking dogs or just cooling off during the summer. Winter is also great with snow and even less people, although somewhat wetter and muddier. In any case this is probably our favorite place in Zagreb.

  • Beautiful park to spend the day. You have lots of benches along the pathways to seat or all the green grass to pick the best spot It also has a restaurant by the entrance that also sells soft drinks and ice cream You can make nice shots and have a relaxing day walking around or feeding the ducks and turtles in the lake

  • Great place for walking or running. Many walking tracks, can spend hours without repeating the same path. Highly recommend.
