Cmentarz Zasluzonych Na Peksowym Brzyzku - Review

Some of the most influential people to live in Zakopane during the glory days of the city have been buried in the Peksowy Brzyzek Cemetery. This is the first and the most prestigious burial ground in the city. There is a small church, Our Lady of Czestochowa, in the premises as well. A stone wall cuts off the cemetery from the growing city around it. The tombstones of the famous residents of the graveyard has been decorated with works of art and carvings or even glass paintings. Quite a lot of these artworks have been done by artists training in the city itself. The cemetery and the church are worth a visit to explore the traditions prevalent in Zakopane.

  • Who tours Poland and visits a cemetery? You should. This is a beautiful, peaceful work of art. The graves are incredible. Landscaping is outstanding. What a wonderful way to honor those who have moved on.

  • We paid 3zl apiece to enter and were immediately wowed by the artistry that went into the grave markers. Wood, stone and metal combinations make for a symphony to honor the departed. Very good visit.

  • Lovely place. A lot of nice small shops with local presents.

  • Pretty strange place. Looks like polish people more familiar what is going on, but for foreigners looks 'interesting'.

  • An old, small meritorious cemetery set up for both local and incoming notables. It contains a great collection of original and unconventional tombstones and artful monuments. Though a place of rest and prayer, it is a treat for the eyes.
