Hike up to the tallest waterfalls in Salzburg: the Krimml waterfalls set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the little village of Krimml. The waterfall is 380 meters high as the mountain waters of the Krimmler Ache, a glacial creek, plunge over three tiers to the valley below.

Reaching up to the waterfalls is a long journey but as you walk for about 30 minutes from the southern end of the village, you shall come across the path to the first view point, the Lower Falls. From here, the Riemannkanzel and the third view point are only about 5 minutes apart. As you climb further, you shall see the Krimmler Ache, which is the source of the waterfall.

At the entrance to the Krimml Waterfalls, there is a new theme park, Water Wonder World, where you can enjoy a new theme park, the Aqua Park and the Multivision show.

  • Very nice place. Note, if want to climb to the waterfall bring suitable shoes to avoid sliding. The ticket price is €3 per person and keep the ticket because they will ask for it when you go out. It's good idea to bring your own snacks if you want to stay longer. Have fun:)

  • We seriously needed to come up with a better word than 'Wow...wow..wow" which became a constant murmur as we trekked our way to the top of this spectacular waterfall. Words seemed dull in the enormity of its presence that shifted with every angle of the assent. This was a fantastic day which we are so glad we did. We were travelling with a German friend who had not heard of the area and was so glad to have come here too. A few tips: the walk to the top is hard, but not impossible and I'm relatively unfit at the moment. Take your time and head up early in the day before it gets too hot. On the heat note, we expected it to be quite cool, but on our particular day it was blisteringly hot. Also, there is an alternative route from the halfway point which we took on the way back called "The Alten Tor" that travels along the other side of the river. We took this route on the way back and loved it. We understood it to be the original route through the mountains in that area and had been used for 1000s of years. It's a lot less maintained, but in our opinion was a nice change and closer to the nature feel of a walk in nature.

  • It's impressive :) you can hike up to the top with look outs along the way and a place to eat at the end. Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

  • Incredible waterfall, which is awe inspiring to stand under. You can also walk up it to see great views of the valley

  • Great hike, small fee to get in but worth it as they use it to maintain the hiking paths. You can slowly make your way up to the top of the falls. They have made convenient stops in between where you get awesome views and a little bit of a "rain shower" too. Hike to middle falls with beautiful view is about 40 minutes up a nice hiking path.
