Tianmen Mountain - Review

At an elevation of 1518.6 metres, the Tianmen Mountains comprise of 40 peaks with a height more than 1000 metres. Being at an extreme height, the day is longer at the Tianmen Mountain hence it is also known as endless sky without darkness.

Popular for its natural miracle- the Tianmen Cave which was the by-product of a collapsing cliff in ancient times, the beauty of the area enchants visitors. You need to climb 999 steps in order to access the cave and at an elevation of 1260 metres, the fog and clouds make a magical picture.

You can reach the mountain by boarding the Tianmen Mountain cableway which is the longest mountain cableway in the world with a hypotenuse length of 7455 meters.

Heaven-linking Avenue and the Bonsai Garden (Hanging Garden) are must-visits in the Tianmen Mountain area. The turning water and the moving of the heaven’s cave are tow scenes worth experiencing on the visit and locals have many tales surrounding these spectacular happenings.

Attractions: Tianmenshan National Forest Park, Tianmenshan Temple, the Tianmen Academy, Transparent Viewing Deck made of Classes, The Ghost Valley Plank Road, Yuhu Peak.

Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie Reviews

  • Great place but pretty crowded. You can get there by cable car or car. The cable car is a great way to start the journey. I used in on a cloudy day so it feels like we are traveling in the cloud, to nowhere. Great feeling. There’re many places for you to visit, like the mountain gate where two mountains meet and form a gate, the glass bridge, the long and winding road... They are still building more infrastructure and will open more service.

  • Zhangjiajie was thrust into foreigner travelers' eyes after the movie Avatar. The Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar were inspired by Heavenly Pillar in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Tianmen Mountain is a mountain located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, China. A cablecar was constructed in 2005 by the French company Porma from nearby Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of the mountain. Tianmen Mountain Cableway is claimed in tourist publications as the "longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world", with 98 cars and a total length of 7,455 m (24,459 ft) and ascent of 1,279 m (4,196 ft) The highest gradient is 37 degrees. Tourists can walk on kilometres of paths built onto the cliff face at the top of the mountain, including sections with glass floors. An 11 km (7 mi) road with 99 bends also reaches the top of the mountain and takes visitors to Tianmen cave, a natural hole in the mountain of a height of 131.5 m (431.4 ft). A large temple is also located on the summit with chairlift or footpath access. The original temple here was built in the Tang Dynasty. Today a more recent construction with Tang dynasty architecture occupies the site and includes a vegetarian restaurant in the 10000 sq mi of setting.

  • Amazing place, likeable place👍 RANGE ROVER SPORT DRAGON CHALLENGE,Tianmen Mountain Road in the Hunan Province of China incorporates a dizzying 99 hairpin turns along the 7 miles of mountainside road,999steps😎

  • Beautiful scenery but can be quite tiring climbing up and down the place. Wear comfortable shoes as there will be plenty of walking and climbing. 😅 Avoid going during China's public holidays or their school holidays. It will become very crowded and long wait for the cable cars.

  • Breathtaking view. Once in a lifetime experience. But thousands of tourists.
