Zhangjiajie National Forest Park - Review

The first national forest park of china spread over 50 square miles in nothing short of a heaven’s treat. Originally a state-run tree farm, the Zhangjiajie forest park is blessed with subtropical climate. This means it is warm in winters and cool in summers making it an ideal place to plan a picnic or short vacation.

It is one of the several national parks within the Wulingyuan scenic area and itself has five scenic areas- Huangshizhai, Golden Whip Stream, Yaozizhai, Yuanjiajie, and Yangjiajie. With 6 travel routes, 468 sightseeing spots, diverse flora and fauna civet cats, giant salamanders, satyr tragopans, dove trees, maidenhair trees, Chinese yews, and Chinese tulip trees, this is a gem of Zhangjiajie city.

The park also houses a museum displaying the culture of the ethnic group in the area.

  • The park is enormous, has nice walking paths, and of course, the magnificent mountains. There are flat paths and also many stairs in other areas. A ticket allows entrance for four days and includes buses within the park but does not include any elevators or lifts. These extra tickets are quite expensive. If you plan to walk everything, you should arrive in the morning so you have time to see everything. You should also plan your route for the day from the beginning to make sure you have enough time to catch the buses if needed and avoid paying for the lifts. The time of the last bus is unclear but it is somewhere between 6 and 7. You can stay in the city next to the park, or stay in Zhangjiajie which is an hour long bus ride to the park (but close to the airport and Tianamen mountain and costs 12-20 yuan). The last bus to Zhangjiajie leaves from the city at 8pm. Ask your hotel about which bus to take and from where. There is a lot of food being sold in the park and it is not horribly overpriced because a lot of it is made by people who live in the park.

  • Too beautiful and unreal. Take a walk from the top of the mountain down the creek and you will see some of the clearest water I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

  • Magnificent park with huge and tall rocks spilt on all the parts of this park, Great looks with every rock isolated from each other, this is a huge park covering more than 278k acres of land. Surrounded by the high spear shaped rocks and huge trees. These rocks with their varied shapes and sizes are the main attraction of all the tourist. Visitors from many parts of the world come here to watch these rocks.

  • Great park! The bit of advice is to make your way to the exit at 6pm. I didn't and got to the exit at 8pm. No buses or taxis and had to walk to a town. It's a fantastic park with great views. You'll easily spend 3 days here.

  • Amazing park! It is huge and there at a lot of Chinese tourists, but really worth it. The views are tourists. No English map of the park is given at the entrance but you can get one at the tourist center of Zhangjiajie (close from the railway station and the bus station) or at the airport. There are various entrance to the park. Wulingyuan is the biggest and most convinient one. Free buses can take you to various interest points in the park, but not all entrances communicate via the buses, so be careful to end your day at the same door as you started from, it can otherwise be very long (and can be very expensive) to get back to your door when the park is closed.
