The hideaway to Guoling village is probably one of the greatest examples of what the sheer will & strength of man can accomplish. The village is located high in the Taihang Mountains on a height of 1700mt and for about 600 years the only way to reach there was through the 720 steps on the side of a steep cliff, also called ‘Sky ladder’. Determined to connect their village with the outside world about 13 strong workers from the village, in 1972, started carving a road down the canyon. They carved on the side and through the mountain and it took them about 5 years to complete this colossal feat. Today the road stretches about 1250mt in length, 13 feet across and 16 feet high and has become a popular tourist attraction. It snakes its way upward to the village while giving a spectacular view of the canyon from the adjacent windows carved into the walls.

• While the sky ladder is accessible to trekkers and hikers the tunnel path can be used for cars and bikes.
• Since located in the deep interiors of the mountains its best to take a cab or rent a car to this place as there involves a lot of changes when travelled by bus.

• Nearest train station is Xinxiang, from there board bus to Huixian, from there take a bus to Wanxianshan Scenic Area, from there take another bus which drops you a little before the hideaway till Nanping village.
