The Grossmünster is a Romanesque-style Protestant church in Zurich, Switzerland. It is one of the three major holy places in the city. The center of the present building, close to the banks of the Limmat River, was built on the site of a Carolingian temple, which was, as per legend, initially appointed by Charlemagne. The Grossmünster was a cloister chapel, vying for priority with the Fraumünster over the Limmat all through the Middle Ages. The twin towers of the Grossmunster are viewed as maybe the most distinguished milestone in Zurich. Architecturally, the church is acknowledged Romanesque in style and subsequently a part of the first dish European engineering pattern since Imperial Roman structural planning. In keeping with the Romanesque structural style, Grossmünster offers an incredible cut entrance offering medieval sections with grotesques beautifying the capitals. A Romanesque tomb dates as far back as the eleventh and thirteenth centuries.

  • Good place to visit. You can walk up to the tower for the nice view of Zurich old town. The Grossmünster is a Romanesque style Protestant church in Zurich. It is one of the four major churches in the city. The twin towers of the Grossmünster are regarded as one of the most recognized landmark in Zurich.

  • It's a bit too much though that you have to pay a fee to go up the lookout tower. Anyways the view from there is fantastic!

  • This is probably the number one main tourist attraction of Zurich. This church is very impressive in designed and size for the location.

  • Have to pay 5 Frank to go up. Stairs are really narrow and if you are not physically fit don't try to attempt it. But the views from the top is really awesome. Worth the effort. No photography permitted inside.

  • The tower is overrated. But the view from up there is nice. The climb up is challenging though. The church itself doesn't have a lot to see inside. The art is a bit of a certain era. Nice overall
