Know More about this tour

We are welcome by the Giraldo Square, the living center of vora, full of architectural styles, from Moorish arches lined up in the Square, through the fountains of the Renaissance, to the Gothic church of So Francisco. Enjoy some free time to taste a regional sweet.

Then we head to one of the major landmarks of Portugal, the Roman Temple, also known as the Temple of Diana. Its powerful front with 14 columns in well-preserved granite, astonish those who see it for the first time. For those who are not easily impressed we suggest a visit to the Bones Chapel. For some people it is a dark place, for other a fascinating space, consisting of hundreds of skulls and skeletons from about 5000 monks of the sixteenth century. There are also two intact corpses exposed in the chapel, so this is not a visit advised to sensitive people.

At lunch time take we will take you to one of the best Evora restaurants.

Then we will go to the Cathedral of Evora, a Roman-Gothic church of the XIII century, where you can climb the tower and have a breathtaking view of the city and the fields surrounding it.

With unique climatic conditions, the vineyards of the region produce some of the best Portuguese wines and so take you to a farm where you will taste the best the Alentejo has to offer.

On our way back to Lisbon we will stop in Arraiolos with its magnificent castle wall and the ancient tradition of the famous carpets of Arraiolos. You can see firsthand how they are manually produced and maybe bring a souvenir.

This would have been a good tour, except for the guide, who was really just a driver. The guide just took me from place to place and left to smoke cigarettes. Explanations of what I was seeing was minimal to none, made worse by his lack of English. He also was devoid of any enthusiasm for guiding. It felt like he would rather be doing something else. The lunch was also terrible. The restaurant took great care to explain to me that I was only allowed to order certain menu items (to stay on budget) which was offensive given the expense I paid for this tour. On top of that the food was the worse I tasted in all of Portugal. The only part of the tour I enjoyed was the wine tour, thank god the guide for that was a representative of the winery!! If I had wanted a driver, I would have booked an Uber!!

Evora was beautiful. Go see it. My rating has nothing to do with Evora or my experience there. Our guide joao(John) was quiet, boring, uninformative, not helpful and mostly interested in dropping us off and getting cigarettes. He and his smoke gave me a headache.

This was better than expected. Eduardo was a true professional and filled the day with fascinating information and enjoyable tales. The day flew by and we were thrilled to visit Evora on our Lisbon trip.

Our tour with Eduardo was one of the highlights of our week long trip to Lisbon, with our two sons, ages 22 and 24. He arrived in a very comfortable car, and we had some great conversations on the ride to Evora. Having a private tour with him and being able to go at our own pace was so nice after having rushed group tours. The lunch place was so authentic and the winery was amazing. Thanks, Eduardo!!

That was a great day with private guide giving us plenty of time for photos and giving us historical perspective. The lunch was a fun stop at a local place with patio.

This was an AMAZING trip. Joao, our personal driver made us feel welcome from the first mile to the end of the trip. He gave a short, yet informative history of Lisbon as we drove out and continued telling us about Portugal all the way to Evora. Once in Evora, he was gracious enough to orient us and then send us on our way. He then took us to the best local eatery where we had the best wine and meal. Then we spent more of the afternoon exploring more around the city.

I would recommend this tour and tour guide anytime. We will be coming back and looking forward to using Joao for an excursion to Porto.

Our tour to Evora was very enjoyable. Eduardo, our guide for the day, promptly arrived at our hotel at 09:00. We were the only 2 persons booked, so it was very much a private tour. Eduardo was pleasant, informative, considerate, and helpful in all respects. On our way to Evora, he invited us to tour a cork producer, because we had expressed an interest in how cork was grown, harvested, and used. He arranged a personalized tour of a family owned cork facility, which was very interesting. When we visited Evora, particularly the church and cathedral, Eduardo shared a deep sense of the piety and devotion of the Portuguese people, along with explaining, in great detail, their history. Our lunch, which was part of the tour, featured a delicious traditional meal in the comfortable, friendly atmosphere of a local restaurant. After lunch we completed our tour of the city of Evora, and visited a local winery in the vicinity. Anna, our guide at the winery, was passionate and enthusiastic about the wines we sampled, and we had a great time there. I would highly recommend this tour. The Evora, Alentejo region of Portugal is unique. It is different in topography, scenery, and tradition, from Lisbon, and offers another perspective from which to appreciate Portugal and its people.

My husband and I very much enjoyed this tour - the car was roomy and very comfortable and most important, Eduardo, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and eager to show us as many sights as possible during our tour. We appreciated how he paid attention to details, such as having lunch with us so he could explain what was on the menu and give suggestions for what to choose, and leaving a bit ahead of us from various sites so he could cool down the car before we got in. He was very generous with his time and clear in his descriptions. It was a most interesting, informative and entertaining day!
