Overview

It is often said that Broomes pearling industry is as rich in culture as it is in pearls. Come and experience a fascinating insight to Broomes unique heritage at Pearl Luggers, in the heart of Broomes Chinatown.
Learn the perils of the deep and discover first hand what made the pearl divers life so hazardous and what drove so many to put their lives at risk.
Was it the riches, the status or just the lure of the pearl? Through daily guided tours and enthralling stories learn of the impact pearling has had upon Northern Australia and why such a large number of nationalities were enticed, often by force, into our pearling industry. View two of the last surviving and perfectly restored pearling luggers, the vessel synonymous with Broome, surrounded by a reconstructed tidal jetty and an authentic pearlers store.

Definitely worth taking the time to learn about the begging of the town. interesting stories that bring the history to life, with items and artifacts that you can interact with, that make it real.

An exceptionally educational and enlightening experience learning about Broome’s dark and rich pearling and shelling history. It was great getting to see and touch tangible examples of shells and pearls and even to taste some pearl meat! I certainly have a greater appreciation of all the hard work undertaken by pearl luggers after doing this tour and won’t be looking at a pearl the same way ever again!

Great informative tour. I think a must do! Gives you a total insight to the past pearl history and town. Additionally today's pearl industry is still operating today at Willie Creek.

Tour follows Pearl fishing history in Broome. Well presented , Videos , Physical examples and Setting including actual Lugger really gives a sense of 'Pearling life' ...Luggers , Divers , Equipment ,Pearls , Town Life history and timeline. Rounded off with taste of pearl meat at the end. Our guide was 'Stewie' , fun and big value.

Great introduction to the Broome pearling industry. Good to see the two luggers, one restored to original state, and to examine the divers’ clothing and equipment. Our guide was very informative and her talk was complemented by excellent videos of how the men worked and lived on the luggers. The tour finished with a tasting of pearl meat and a viewing of the different grades of pearls. Good value.

We did the Pearl Luggers Tour in July 2022 and found it so informative especially the early days of pearling. We were given a great insight into the problems the Pearl Luggers had especially in the 18OOs. Would recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Broome.
