Day 2: Todra Gorges - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga Desert
Morning departure to Merzouga Desert. Visit the Palmeraie area, which has thousands of palm trees. Then, get to Todra Gorges by walking. Keep trekking through Tinejdad and Erfoud, and then have lunch at Rissani. Visit Alaouit's first King Tomb (Current Moroccan Royal Family). Afterward, arrive at Merzouga Desert where you will enjoy a camel ride through the dunes of Erg Chebbi, and see the sunset over the dunes. Spend the night at a nomadic private tent at a Berber campsite.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Nomads Families - Khamlia Village - Erg Chebbi
This is a complete desert day. If you are in the middle of the desert, its absolutely worth getting up early to see the sunrise at the top of a dune close to the camp. After watching the sunrise, return to Merzouga where a hearty breakfast is waiting for you. Then you will skirt the Erg Chebbi, great extension of sandy desert where we can find the big dune of Morocco. Along the way, catch sight of a Nomad settlement, and learn their secrets and manners. Once you reach Khamlia Village, sip on a relaxing cup of tea, and listen to a concert of the spiritual music of Gnawa. Transfer to your luxury accommodation and get the afternoon free to explore the town or the dunes next to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel or at the nomadic private tent again.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert - Ziz Valley - Cedar Forests & Monkey Troupes - Fez City
After breakfast, start your last day to the north through Tafilalet palm grove. Here you will see thousands of palm trees. This way leads us to Ziz valley. Stop at Midelt, just in the heart of the middle Atlas where you will have free time for lunch and rest for a while. In the afternoon, continue your way through the cedar forests, where, if you are lucky, you will see some Barbary apes. Next, visit Ifran city, situated in the northwestern slope of the middle Atlas mountains. Its broad avenues, urban development with perfect cleanness, the green areas, and its architecture make this city looks like a Swiss town. That is why it is nicknamed the Moroccan Switzerland. At about 6 p.m., arrive at Fez city, and transfer to your riad or hotel.

This private tour is definitely the way to get from Marrakesh to Fes. It was one part awesome road trip, one part cultural exchange, one part intensive french lesson. Abdul made this all possible. As you're sitting in his super comfortable SUV watching the incredible landscape change from desert to alpine, you'll be talking about Morocco and it's people and listening to traditional Berber music and Arab pop songs. Abdul speaks perfect English and French but as in my case, will patiently allow you to practice French with him. Abdul also impressed me with how hard he was working to make sure I was well taken care of. When I commented on this, his response was, It's just my nature to do so.
