    Day 1:
Pick up at Bagan airport and transfer to your hotel.  Bagan, lies on a vast plain at a bend in the Ayeyarwady River and was the site of Myanmar’s first capital. Rest of the day is free to explore on your own.  Please note on arrival at Bagan Airport you will need to pay $20 per person entry fee.  Overnight at Hotel Blazing or similar in twin-share room.

    Day 2:
Following breakfast, meet your guide in the hotel lobby at 9am and we travel by bike to explore Bagan.  The beauty of the temples and pagodas is dazzling, and perhaps the most impressive and inspiring monuments are Thatbinnyu, Ananda, Gawdanpalin, Dhammayangi temples and the Shwezigon Pagoda. The temple interiors are often filled with rows of Buddha, images of guardian Nats or spirit gods and intricate murals depicting the life of Buddha and scenes of royalty.

We enjoy local lunch at one of the small local restaurants and perhaps visit the world’s only Thanakha (traditional Myanmar make up) museum where we learn in-depth about how this powder/paste was made and why they are so much in to part of the daily life for Myanmar people.   You will also visit a lacquer-ware workshop and learn about the long and arduous process of making bowls and trays that often take months to complete.

In the evening a climb up of one of the ruins for a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the river and the surrounding plain filled with countless temples and pagodas. Overnight at Hotel Blazing or similar in twin-share room.

    Day 3:
Pick up at hotel and we depart by local transport for Pakokku, located across the Ayeyarwady  River (40 km, approx. one hour). We walk around town enjoying the sites and sounds of this unique rural centre. Explore enchanting Pakokku market, visit local cottage industries such as slipper making and cheroot making workshops which are famous in Myanmar. While we are here we will try out some local daily life activities such as learning how to wear a longyi or trying our hand and walking with a basket balanced on our heads the way we will see locals doing.

We have Lunch at local restaurant and visit one of the Pagoda sites to observe an excellent and artistic arch-pediment which was made of five blocks of teak and inscribed with nine Buddhist stories. From here we visit the ancient Pagoda built in the 3rd Century B.C, located on the western bank of Ayeyarwady River which gives us a great view of the river.

Afternoon we will be transferred to Pakokku jetty and take a private local boat across the Ayeyarwaddy River to Bagan. This river journey is interesting because you see all types of local boats along the river as well as the local river life.
