Overview

Challenge yourself on a 6-day hiking adventure departing from Cartagena, taking you right into the Colombian Jungle to trek the mythical Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) hidden in the foothill of the Sierra Nevada Mountain. Archaeologists believe it was founded around 800 AD by the Tayrona culture. Check out its plazas and more than 100 terraces carved into the hillside. Depending on the length of the trek you choose, youll have time to visit local indigenous villages along the way, swim in natural pools and camp each night among the lush wilderness of the Colombian Jungle. Your trip reaches its climax with the chance to explore Ciudad Perdida,admiring the sites intricate plazas and stone terraces carved into the hillside.

Day 1: Cartagena - Santa Marta

We will pick you up at your hotel in Cartagena at 10 am to take you on a 4-hour drive to Santa Marta. You will spend the night at El Habitante Hostel (lunch and dinner are at your own expense)

Day 2: Santa MartaMamey1st Camp (L, D)
After taking your breakfast at the Hostel, your first day of adventure begins at 8:30 am at the Magic Tours main office (in the Historical center of Santa Marta). Hop on a 4 wheel-drive vehicle and enjoy a 3-hour road trip to a small town called El Mamey, where youll stop for lunch at a local restaurant serving typical Colombian Food.

After lunch, the first trek begins. Its a 4-hour hike to the first campsite, stopping along the way whenever the group needs a break. When we reach the camp, we will have dinner and then hit the sack, resting up for your long day of trekking the next day.

Day 3: 1st Camp Mutanzi 3rd Camp (B, L, D)
We will wake up early and eat a quick breakfast before departing around 6 am for our 2-hour trek to an indigenous village called Mutanzi. We will then walk for about 40 minutes from Mutanzi to the 2nd Campsite where a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. Rest for a while and get ready for one last 4-hour trek to the 3rd camp, where dinner will be served.

Day 4: 3rd Camp Ciudad Perdida 2nd Camp
After breakfast, leave camp around 6 am for the hike to Ciudad Perdida, which youll reach around 7 am and enter by climbing its 1,200 stone stairs.
Youll have two hours to explore the ancient city, set in the dense jungle. Our guide will give you a quick tour and be present to answer all of your questions. After we return to the 3rd campsite, well have lunch and will be able to rest for a while. In the afternoon, get ready for a 4-hour trek back to the 2nd camp, where youll have dinner and stay for the night.

Day 5: 2nd CampMameySanta Marta

After breakfast, the longest hike will take place. We will trek for 7-hours, mostly downhill, to El Mamey, where well have lunch again, as we did on Day 1. Our guide will then drive you back to El Habitante Hostel in Santa Marta, where you will stay for the night. (Dinner is at your own expense)

Day 6: Santa Marta - Cartagena

On the next morning, you will have a delicious breakfast before we drive you back to Cartagena at 10 am.

How do the inclusions work?

Food:

5 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 3 dinners and snacks during the hikes. The meals will be prepared locally at the campsite, and the snacks will be local fruits. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or follow aspecial diet.

Transportation:

To and from Cartagena - Santamarta
To and from the Magic Tours main office, in 4x4 vehicles with local drivers.

Lodging:
There will be both beds and/or hammocks available on all three campsites, all with mosquito nets. You will be assigned one or the other depending on availability. We will also provide blankets upon request since it can get chilly at night at the base of a snow peak. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from sleeping in a hammock, please let us know in advance.
