The commentator was excellent and the trip was pleasant.
However, it was promoted as a tour with stops etc including a visit to a winery.
In reality we didn't get any of that. What we got was a shuttle service with a commentary.

The same shuttle service was promoted on a kerbside billboard at a much lower cost

We spent most of the day exploring the sights of Chch on foot and had our lunch.
The bus dropped us off at the gardens and picked us up from there 3 hours later and returned us to Akaroa

Still a good way to fill in the day though

This was a misbegotten flop. At Akaroa, we had to take a tender in from the ship. There were problems with some of the tenders on the Noordam and, as a result, we ran more than an hour late in getting to Akaroa. When we got there, we found out that the bus had left with only 5 of the 15 passengers booked on the tour. One of our party called the provider Red Bus Ltd and was told there was nothing that could be done about it. Even persons in our group who got there an hour ahead of us got left. Bummer.

This excursion actually was a bus ride to and from Christchurch with a tour guide narrating about what we were seeing as we took the 90 minute ride each way. The narrator and bus driver were very good. We were dropped off in a central location in Christchurch and had 3 hours to tour the area. Good value for the amount of travel involved.

This was named and described as a 1 Small-Group Tour, 2 with a maximum of 15 per booking 3 Tour of Christchurch. It was none of these things. There were approximately 30 people on a 46 passenger bus - the driver was thought he was being quite funny when he said, if the four of you sit together, you'll be in a small group! This was just a bus ride to Christchurch where the bus dropped you off and a couple hours later picked you up - no tour of Christchurch at all. The PA system in the bus was terrible - with the driver having a thick New Zealand accent, it was near impossible to understand much of the commentary along the way to Christchurch. If all you want is a long bus ride to Christchurch, this may be for you. By the way, I don't think the bus driver is to blame - this new tour was not at all vetted by Viator.

Wanted to see the NZ countryside as well as Christchurch. The bus ride from Akaroa takes about 1 1/2 hrs and the trip was made even more enjoyable by the commentary we received during this ride. We were given approx 2.5 hrs in Christchurch as our own time. Then back on the bus for the drive back to the ship. It was well worth the money.

Great tour, but could have started closer to ship disembarkation time

    • 17-Jan-2018

28 on a bus is not a small group. Microphone on bus didn't work so couldn't hear the commentary.

      Nice tour
