Know More about this tour

Just around sunset, we'll meet at Tenma Station (on the JR loop line, just one stop from Osaka Station/Umeda), which puts us right in the middle of a very old part of Osaka. First, we'll head to neighboring Ogimachi Park, taking in the views and getting oriented. Then it's time to dive in to Tenma proper! While walking around, your guide will explain the history and context of the area, and all about the culture that thrives here today.

After about 45 minutes of walking around, we'll stop for our first drink and bit of food for the night, in the heart of Tenma. Food will vary by restaurant and your tastes over the course of the evening, but typical dishes include "kushi katsu" (fried food on sticks), "dote nikomi" (slow cooked beef... parts), "tonpei yaki" (a grilled pork and egg dish), and some healthier things as well -- promise! A bit more walking around Tenma brings us to another great eating and drinking spot, quite different from the first one.

After we've thoroughly surveyed Tenma, we'll hop on a train for the short ride to Kyobashi, where the vibe is a bit more raucous, but equally fun! It's an old area, filled to the brim with character. In Kyobashi, we'll walk around about 10 minutes before stopping at a final "standing bar" for more food and drink.

Osaka is famous for its food, and you're going to see it all tonight! Except takoyaki and okonomiyaki, because you can eat those on your own or with some more pedestrian tour! :)

Your tour will take you to three different open/standing bars that also serve food and the two neighborhoods of Tenma and Kyobashi. The tour includes at least a five small plates of food (a solid dinner's worth), three drinks, and the train ticket between the two neighborhoods. Additional drinks can be purchased, and some nice Japanese whiskies may also be available too!

  • Wonderful experience. Guide was good and brought us to some interesting places that we would not go on our own.
    Food and drinks was good.

  • Great guide, good service

  • A lot of fun!

  • We took the tour on Friday October 20th. The your is actually ran by Australians, not Japanese guides. They keep them to a max of 5 people per tour. The tour guides are Kevin or Tom. We got Tom, who was fun and very relaxed. During my 10 days stay in Japan, we took 2 big group tours and 3 private yours, all with Japanese guides, and trust me that we learned and had more fun with Tom than in any of the previous tours. He spoke perfect Japanese, and told us a lot about the city and the Japanese culture that we just did not learn in the previous tours. The food was really good, and diverse. While you will find some weird dishes, they are all delicious. You will be taken to real Osaka, and not Dotonbori, which is mainly for tourists. Since you still have to go to Dotonburi, you will be able to compare the quality of the food and you will see what I am talking about and you will be really happy you took this tour. Because they are locals, they will order only good stuff for you and stuff that you would have never been to order by yourself due to the language barriers. If you are a foodie, and want to have a real experience in Osaka, I strongly recommend this tour.

  • Would highly recommend! Suited for a more adult crowd, but our guide Kevin was very knowledgeable and entertaining. You'll be eating food and having drinks in places that are very hard to find as a tourist. Extremely good for a look-in to local cuisine and culture.

  • Kevin is fun.. insightful and engaged and takes you to the edge... in a nice way. If you want a food adventure... this is the one.. otherwise there are food tours...

  • Bottom Line first: Stop reading and sign up for this tour right now if you're going to be in Osaka.
If you're still reading, a few more details: The few hours I spent walking around with a group of five including our guide - Ricky - were easily the most fun and unique experience of my first trip to Osaka. As a small group of like-minded travelers we all agreed that our guide was easy-going, approachable, super knowledgable and great at sharing everything we wanted to know about Osaka and Western Japan: food, culture, sights, history, and of course Food! Ricky said at the beginning that his goal was to bring our group to spots that we would almost never experience on our own, and see some great things in between. Mission 100 Accomplished. Without a doubt this was the best value tour in Osaka. Have you signed up yet? Go for it!

  • Our group played second fiddle to another tour group on this evening.
We booked this tour on the back of the trip advisor reviews for Kevin, who I think is the owner of the Business.
We received an email 4 days out from our booked tour, informing us that our start time was going to be delayed by 1 hour, and we would have a different guide, apparently on the basis that the tour would flow better with smaller groups.
I agree that this tour needed smaller groups based on the size of the venues, but to have our group follow the exact same route and venues was a poor decision that saw our group doing laps around the block waiting for the other group we ended up calling the other group the A Teamto finish up.
Chris, the emergency call up Guide did an OK job, really nice guy, but probably not the outgoing personality needed for this type of tour. We could tell how uncomfortable he was when time after time, we arrived at the same venue as the A Team, he then had to literally guide us around the block a couple of times until the A Team were ready to move on.
Great city, great tour idea poorly managed and executed.

  • Kevin shares a lot of history and takes you to interesting local/not touristy places for yum/adventurous food.
I was disappointed about the amount of time spent showing us about the sex industry and he said he didn't want to see this in reviews. I would love to have more info about the food instead.

  • This was our first time in Osaka and I just have to say if you want to get away from the main tourist areas and really try some of the best local cuisine, this tour is a must. Kevin has an extensive amount of knowledge of the local area and culture. We had a really fun experience visiting local standing bars and traditional eateries. Would definitely recommend this tour and would definitely do it again!
