Know More about this tour

Meet your tour leader in central Palermo and depart by air-conditioned vehicle. Relax on the journey towards Agrigento, a city on Sicilys south coast.

Listen as your tour leader explains the history of Agrigento and the ancient Greek city of Akragas. During its heyday, Akragas was the most prosperous and important settlement on the island of Sicily and beautiful remnants of its past glory are still visible today.

On arrival, head to the Archaeological Museum of Agrigento, which showcases valuable and revealing artifacts from ancient times. Pay the admission fee to gain entry and discover more about the life of Greek settlers. Your time here is spent independently, leaving you free to examine the exhibits that interest you the most. Make your way around the statues, pottery and ancient remains before meeting back up with your tour leader at the prearranged time.

After getting to grips with the history of this once powerful city, break for lunch (own expense). Then, marvel at the beauty of the UNESCO-listed Valley of the Temples, a vast archaeological zone that contains well-preserved monuments from the ancient city. Pay the admission fee, then head inside to explore independently, viewing numerous temples including the famous Temple of Concord (Tempio della Concordia), an immaculately preserved 5th-century structure.

Come late afternoon, hop on the vehicle for the drive back to Palermo, where your tour concludes with a drop-off back at the start point.

  • Excellent trip with knowledgeable guides. The drive there was interesting too - beautiful scenery.

  • Great trip interesting and informative. Restaurant choice just ok.

  • The Valley of Temples definitely worth visiting, but if we'd have to choose again, we'd choose a different tour.

The reasons why we do not recommend this tour are the following:
    - the time we had to visit the Valley of Temples was way too short only 1.5 h - we were always on a rush, didn't have time to explore the monuments as we wanted because the local guide was always calling us to move to the next monument - it was really frustrating.
    - spent most of the time on the road see the itinerary below
    - had to pay extra for the entry fees 13.5 eur for the MuseumValley of Temples
    - tour price - over 140
Overall, the price of the tour was way too high for the services provided.

We would suggest at least to allow more time for exploring the Valley of Temples, to improve a bit the overall experience.

Want to mention that, despite the above shortcomings, we appreciated the driver's attitude - she was really nice and willing to help us.

The itinerary: We left Palermo at 8:30 and got back around 17:45 - out of the total time of 9 hours, about 5 h were spent on the road, 1.5 h for lunch, 1 h at the Museum and only 1.5-1.75 h at the Valley of the Temples.

  • My husband and I signed up to this tour just three days beforehand and were pleased they still had availability. We travelled with another 6 passengers to Agrigento in a small mini-van which was a pleasant journey and our guide shared lots of history and stories with us as we travelled. We spent 60 minutes in the museum before heading to lunch and then another 90 minutes at the Valley of the Temples. Whilst we thought the trip was a fantastic experience you MUST see the Valley of the Temples! I do think the tour is over-priced and if we had more time to research, we would possibly go with another provider. Over 100pp is significant considering you have to pay for your own entry fees, travel to/from the meeting point in Palermo and lunch/drinks during the day - I was very surprised that the price didn't include a bottle of water or hotel pick-up/drop-off. The guide also seemed a little rushed at times, but this could just be because they know how difficult traffic can be and wanted to get back on the road in good time. Overall, the Valley of the Temples is unmissable but maybe the provider should review their prices.

  • Good tour with a site guide. Lunch took a bit long so felt our time viewing the temples was a bit rushed.

  • This tour was an overpriced means of transport from Palermo to Agrigento. We still had to pay entrance to the museum and temple area this was stated at time of booking so basically all the money went to transport and local guide. We were given an hour in the museum then taken to nearby restaurant to buy lunch. Diners took 90 minutes for lunch which is excessive and the few of us who only wanted a coffee had nothing else to do but wait as there is nothing else around. I believe guests should have been given the option to spend more time in the museum if they didn't want a long lunch. With a little research I think it would be possible to take this trip for half the price. Very disappointing.

  • Great small bus tour. Guide was informative, providing just the right information. Well organised, stopping at the local museum first before lunch and then spending a good 90 minutes on the Agrigento complex. Could have happily spent longer there!

  • Great day trip to see the temples, wonderful guides. Tour is quite pricey given lunch and entrance fees not included. Would have been better to have been given an hour of free time at the temples as the guided tour was quite rushed and not enough time to fully appreciate and take photos.

  • Very enjoyable trip. The Van was big and comfortable. Guide explains the history all the way to Agrigento. We will be on our own during the museum and valley of temples. The valley of temples was worth it as we get close up to the ruins. Lunch place was nice. Trip back and quiet and we slept all the way.

  • I think this is a great opportunity to see the ruins and learn about ancient times. However, I would put this trip to leave a little earlier in order to experience more the city and the museum because, once you arrive, there is little time to do so, I would also include lunch in the trip because after all, they bring you to a specific restaurant. The guide was very good and I think that a little leaflet with information on what you will see during the trip to get there would also help to understand more the main highlights, nothing fancy or expensive, just additional information.
