I felt so lucky to have Zoe as my guide on one of the most fun tours I have ever done!
After our hotel pickup we got a great overview of the sights of Shanghai. The Bund is stunning and Zoe was able to give us way more information than if Id just gone there on my own. Yu Garden was a bit overwhelming with so many people so I was really happy to have Zoe by my side who could cut through the masses and take us to the most meaningful sights.
After the gardens, we took a beautiful drive in a super comfy car! through the French Concession where Zoe told us about the fascinating history of Shanghai. Then it was onwards to Xitang!
What a different world Xitang is! Dont forget your camera because around every corner is another picture perfect view. We wandered, snacked, chatted and drank Zoe was great company and full of fun facts! Zoe not only shared so much interesting information about the culture of Xitang but she was also able to explain much of the customs and culture in China that as a foreigner I didnt understand until now. I wish that I could go back and do it all over again - what an amazing day and night!
Thank you Zoe, youre the BEST!

A fantastic day and night with Miki Tour

I have been to China numerous times over the last 15 years on business. From time to time I have had the possibility to do some sightseeing and I have been fortunate to come across Miki Tours in Shanghai. Even though I have been in Shanghai many times I have actually never taken time with a guide to visit the local sights daytime.

For this tour Miki was my guide, she is really great. I have also had other guides from the company and they have all been wonderful. In Shanghai we visited the Bund including the HSBC old bank building with its painted ceilings. Here I learnt things about the cultural revolution that I was not aware of and how the paintings actually were preserved for the future. It is interesting to see all the Chinese flags flying over all the old colonial buildings and balancing the spectacular view of modern Pudong and Miki gives you an excellent insight into the history of the, by Chinese standards, really young city. Visiting the French Concession gives a good understanding to what the city looked like some time back. We also went to the Yu Garden, I have been here before on my own, the additional dimension of historical facts made it really interesting. There is large stone in the garden, from a lake close to Suzhou, that turns out to be worth more than the whole garden. Not just seeing the garden as a tourist attraction but getting an understanding of what is behind the design was great and I regretted not having done this years ago. Before heading off to Xitang water village we toured Tianzifang with its small allies, shops, cafés and restaurants. It is like a small maze and a really fun and lively place to visit. We had a drink in a cat café with beautiful cats roaming around.

I really looked forward to visiting Xitang at night. I had heard it was a water village living up at night with more than 300 bars, nigh lights, canals. I was not disappointed. First, this seems to be a village mostly visited by Chinese at night. I was one of the few westerners. Secondly, Miki had laid out the visit so you went through the water village visiting friends of the company and exploring both interesting food and shops. We went to taste local wine. There are a lot of flavors, from roses and mulberry to undefined making you strong as a tiger and alcohol levels from a few percentages to over 50 :. The latter more on the tiger side. Taste is really good, staff nice an friendly, and you can get your wine in beautiful ceramic bottles if you like. I got to see where Tom Cruise and the Mission Impossible 3 film was shot before we visited one of Miki Tours local friends. They run a small hotel in the village and here we were treated to a homemade plum drink, a really good dumpling soup and dumplings. Great Chinese food and I felt really welcome. It was like visiting family. After some more touring in the village and shooting 100s of pictures of the nicely lit canals, bridges and houses there came a surprise. We went to a small bar with Karaoke. Again friends of Miki Tours. Here we had some drinks while the guests were singing most really good. While at the bar Miki disappeared for a while and came back in a fantastic dress and made a great performance. It was great fun and a nice finish to the night. It was a long day, packed with sights and experiences. As said in the description of the tour, all is included, even drinks at the bar, and I think it was great value. You can do the sights on your own but never match the experience of having Miki Tours guiding you. I would highly recommend this tour if you have a day available. Read up on the sights a little bit beforehand and Miki Tours will customize it to your interests.
