Know More about this tour

Meet your guide at 07:15AM at New Road Guest House and prepare for departure at 07:30.

Go by local bus to Bangkok Hua Lamphong Central Train station and continue by local train to Ayutthaya. The train is your window to the world and your secret to getting a peek into the daily life along the railroad.

Once in Ayutthaya, explore the city by foot and by bicycle. Get introduced to and understand the ancient capitals history after a visit to the Travel Center Ayutthaya. Then set out for the temples: Wat Mahathat with the Buddha head in the tree trunk, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, which was the holiest temple in the Ayutthaya period, and Wat Lokayasutharam with its impressive 37 meters long reclining Buddha.

Have lunch at a local restaurant and get familiar with the local cuisine and unique flavors.

The dessert, you will have to make yourself as you try hands on the Roti Pag Pia, also known as Sai Mai and best described as a pancake rolled around candy floss. With stomachs full and imagination nurtured, venture back towards Bangkok by train and end either at Bangkoks Hua Lamphong Central Train Station around 17.30pm, expect delays for your onwards journey, or proceed back to New Road Guest House.

We loved this trip. Our guide, Tammy, was knowledgeable, patient, and made the trip a lot of fun. We took a local train through the countryside and she pointed out the rice fields, etc. When we arrived at Ayutthaya, we took a little ferry across the river because Aytthaya is an island. We were fitted with bikes and she guided us through the traffic to the historical ruins that dated back 1350. We stopped and watched cotton candy being made from scratch and then ate it wrapped in a roti. We stopped for a fabulous lunch by the river before exploring the museum, the reclining buddah, and the buddah in the banyan tree. My only caveat is that there was a lot of traffic on this small island to negotiate with the bike.

We enjoyed the tour. It's not flashy. Public bus to the train station. Third class train car, so no seat reservations. The bikes have have seen some miles. What you do get is a genuine experience that we wouldn't trade for anything. Interaction with real people, similarly minded travelers on the tour, lunch by the river in a local restaurant. Just the right amount of sites and pedaling. And...a perfect full day of travel memories. Thanks.

This was a REAL tour by REAL locals and a way to see this fascinating city. Via local bus, train Ferry and bike with a meal at a local market by the river. Local traveling means time to chat with Thai people. Boy what a wonderful full day experience at a budget price.
I strongly recommend if you wish to experience this trip in a non touristic manner this is the way to go. And did i say that i was lucky as it was two of us plus Phet the guide and two guides in training.

Come on all you backpackers don't miss this one.
