Koprivshtitsa (100 km from Sofia) is a true example of the Bulgarian Revival architecture of the 19th century. The small mountain town played a significant part in the national rise of the Bulgarian people under the Ottoman rule. Here in 1876, the April Uprising against the Turks broke out. The wealthy citizens at that time were involved in crafts and trade and they were competing in building beautiful houses with colorful facades, hidden behind high stone walls and heavy wooden gates.
After spending a couple of hours in this charming town we continue to the Thracian Temple of Starosel – another hour drive through the Valley of Roses. We visit the local winery in Starosel, enjoying the spa center before we leave back to Sofia.
