This tour, by Due South Travels, is a 2+ hour guided walking tour of Antigua, one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Our local guide will give you tons of great information, including the history of the city and its architecture, the geography, culture, and religion of historical and modern day Guatemala.

During the tour we will visit and discuss Antigua's significant landmarks. We will talk about the volcanoes and earthquakes Guatemala has experienced, the Mayan ethnic groups, the Spanish invasion, and modern day life here.

We are different from the four hour walking tours offered in town because we don't take you shopping (too much pressure!), however, our local guides would love to bring you AFTER the tour if you'd like a thorough explanation of jade or if you're interested in bargaining for some beautiful handicrafts. You'll also receive plenty of other suggestions for things to do in and around town.

Cristina was nice and friendly. Patiently waited while we shopped at the Jade museum and was kind enough to wait on us while we got snacks along the way. The tour was very informative and not too long.

Great local tour guide. We walked around and she taught me so much about Antigua and Guatemala. She was also very helpful with tips and recommendations.

I had a lovely morning with Christina as the only person on the tour. I learned quite a bit about Antigua and it’s history. She told me about several churches. I did the combined historical and market tour so then we went to the markets. Food was not included in the price, but we enjoyed papusas and then had a typical Guatemalan meal at a comedore for just Q20 each. It was a lovely introduction to the area. Christina is also a Spanish teacher so she taught me a few things, and spoke slowly in Spanish at lunch so I could test my limited Spanish. All in all a great way to spend the morning.

A nice way to be introduced to Antigua. Information about history and culture and some orientation to the city. A little bit of commercialism added in. You stop by the Jade store and see a little bit about Jade and have an opportunity to buy things. I was also taken by the square where there was a woman selling textiles from her village. A little bit more expensive than you would buy someplace else and it failed a little bit like a set up but you could certainly say no. (i didn't) I happen to be on my own and there was no one else signed up for the tour on this Friday. I got a private tour that was scheduled to be in English but because I'm a student of Spanish the guide was thoughtful and spoke in Spanish slowly for me to understand. She could translate anything needed.

Walking around Antigua with Cristina was really great, she is nice and knowledgeable. I recommend you to take this tour on your first day in Antigua to understand what is going on around in the rest of your trip. One thing that could have been better is waiting for other people before moving on to the next thing, e.g. I was buying a gift from a store that was part of the tour (not something I stopped at on my own) and because the 4 other people weren’t buying, the guide left and I missed the whole information on the next thing (town hall) just because the payment and invoicing took 2-3 more mins. I didn’t feel very good about it. Usually walking tours have a +- 15 or 30 minutes for such cases, even if I was taking a photo for a minute, the guide should wait for me and others, as long as it is not extreme indeed. We are not in a lecture but a touristic tour :)

If you'd like to understand a bit more about the area and the stories behind the buildings and churches, this is the tour for you. Luis was an amazing guide and gave us just the right mix of history, culture and gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Well worth the time and money and be sure to ask for Luis.

Due South is a well-run tour company that made things easy for travelers from other countries looking for day activities. They’re responsive to advance questions, and the guides were prompt and friendly. A special shout-out to Luis who was a fantastic Antigua tour guide. He had a great personality and was fun to hang out with. For our Pacaya hike, a driver picked us up, and we met with a guide at the volcano entrance, and our driver waited for us to take us home after the hike, which was really convenient.

We had a great tour with Luis, a super knowledgeable and fun guide who took lots of time to get to know us and answer additional questions. Awesome way to see the centre.

Antigua has lots of history and places to visit. This tour was nice but felt more like a walk around accompanied by some information. Please be aware that if you are looking for more comprehensive understanding of Antigua’s history, architecture and culture, a different option might be the best option.
