Overview

The tour will head north on US 191 passing the entrance of Arches National Park which was designated as a National Monument before being changed to a National Park in 1971. Our special use permit allows us to enter the back door to Arches via the Willow Springs Road. Along this backcountry route, you'll travel through the new area of the "Utah Raptor State Park". Here where Native Americans lived back in history for thousands of years you'll see dinosaur tracks and enjoy the views of the La Sal Mountains. The Park lies atop an underground salt bed that is responsible for the arches, spires, and sandstone fins. Several of the stops include Eye of the Whale, Balanced Rock, Panorama Point, and the Windows Section. The trip length is approximately 4 hours duration. All vehicles are Jeep Rubicons which are enclosed and air-conditioned.

Know More about this tour

Your tour begins in the town of Moab after meeting your experienced guide. Board your comfortable 4x4 vehicle for the 5-mile (8-km) drive to the park. Once inside Arches national park, your off-road adventure begins at Doc Williams Point.

More than 2,000 giant sandstone arches are scattered throughout the park, which is the largest collection of naturally occurring arches found anywhere in the world. Find pinnacles, fins, and rocks along this epic landscape of rich red earth sculpted by time. Take in amazing geological formations such as sandstone spires and layered red rock. Admire the sandstone fin known as Marching Men and the 92-foot (28-meter) span of Tower Arch.

If some of this landscape looks familiar, its probably because youve seen it one of your favorite Hollywood films. Popular movies like Thelma and Louise were shot in portions of the park, as were scenes for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Towards the end of the tour, have the option to leave the park through the ruggedness of an old cowboy trail.

After exploring in this unique southern Utah terrain, your tour finishes in the town of Moab from the same spot where it began.

On Sunday September 4th my wife and I set out to tour both the Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park here in Moab, UT. Before getting here I did it he research on Trip Advisor to see what company to use. Adrift Adventures was a home run from the beginning to the end. Since we only had one day to explore the parks we decided to do both in one day. It was a very long day as our guide, Jim Schreck, picked us up at 6:40 am and dropped us off at around 5 pm. I cannot say enough great things about our guide, Jim. I highly recommend that you request that he is your guide. He was so knowledgeable of both parks, the geology of all the formations and history of the locations inside the park. The really cool thing about Jim’s tour is that he took us place within both parks that most people will never see. In fact one Arch in Canyonlands he said only about 1% of the people who visit here goes to see it. And it was an awesome place. In the Arches National Park he took us “off” the beaten path to an Arch that was the highlight of our tour. There were no other people there…..so awesome! For lunch he brought us back the office and fed us a great lunch (sandwich, chips and cookies). Very good lunch, thank you! Jim always had water for us as we drove and got out to take pictures. He knew exactly where for us to stand and he took the picture of my wife and I. Don’t miss going on tour with Adrift Adventures and Jim Schreck as your guide!!!!

Our guide, Jim, was so very pleasant and knowledgeable. It was my first visit to Moab and to Arches. Seeing the theropod tracks was especially cool for me. He really made our tour entertaining and educational. Being able to cool off in the AC between sites was nice too. All in all, a great experience.

Wade was a great guide, knowledgeable of the area and geology. Off roading and seeing sites you can’t from the main road was perfect.

Went twice to the park during our stay ti take everything in. The Arches are amazing and breathtaking to see. Easy access to see most of the arches. Did some hiking too.

Hiking to the Eye of the Whale with Joshua and taking a few moments to appreciate the quietness. We were the only people there.

  • 18-Aug-2022

This was a great tour - we got to see significantly more of the park than we would have done on our own and although we’re peak season we saw hardly anyone. Joshua May and Duffy were our guides. Both were super interesting and had lots to share about the park, the geology, Moab and the area. The off roading as a bit steep in places but the family loved it. would highly recommend this as a trip.

Jim thanks for taking us off the beaten track today and show us all the nice places!! We won’t tell anybody which ones - if you want to know: ask for Jim!

The trip out to the eye of the whale arch was great. The lessons learned not only about the arches but also the plants and geology of the park by our driver/guide Jim Schreck added so much to the tour. Also seeing the dino footprints was an unexpected surprise.

Mark was an incredible guide and driver! He knew the history of Arches National Park and made what we saw and heard very meaningful! He connected well with the four of us and was able to take us to places in the park most people will never experience. I recommend this tour to anyone who ends up in Moab wanting to have a real fun time!

This was our first time to Moab and I am glad I booked this tour, it made the most of our time. Our guide Mark was fantastic! He knows the area and took us around the park in 1/2 a day, we hit all of the highlights and he gave us a lot of valuable tidbits of information and history. I would highly recommend this trip!
