Know More about this tour

After a minivan pickup from your hotel in San Jose, your day trip begins with the 35-minute drive northwest to Sarch, a Central Valley town famous for its crafts, particularly wood and leather furniture and decorated oxcarts. Pick up a souvenir or two from a local artisan before making the 2.5-hour drive further north to the town of La Fortuna, which sits below Arenal and offers an unobstructed view of the volcn on clear days.

On arrival in La Fortuna, head to a local restaurant for a typical Costa Rican lunch of rice, beans, chicken or steak, and plantains, accompanied by a great view of Arenal. Then, continue your tour about 20 minutes down the road to Mirador Arenal 1968, a trail system on the edge of Arenal Volcano National Park (Parque Nacional Volcn Arenal) named for the 1968 eruption. Walk along the paths to find the best photo spots of the volcano and Lake Arenal (Lago Arenal), and watch for glimpses of bright orange lava flowing down the volcano.

Finally, head a few miles back toward La Fortuna to the Tabacn hot springs officially Tabacn Grand Spa Thermal Resort one of Costa Ricas biggest and most luxurious hot springs resorts. • Excellent. Very enjoyable trip. The bus was comfortable and air-conditioned. We started with lunch before visitng La Fortuna and Arenal then dinner after spending a few hours in the hot springs at Tabacon and before heading back to the hotels.

  • The hot springs at Tabacon were amazing and the pictures do not capture the full experience. The information about the Arenal volcano and view from the look out point was fabulous! Eric was by far the best guide we had while in Costa Rica! We contemplated staying in the La Fortuna area, but decided to stay in San Jose and do day trips instead to different areas. The trip made for a very full day, but was worth every minute. They really do pick you up from your hotel and drop you off. We stayed in Escazu, and that was a concern of mine, but they work with you and even pick up from Air BnBs at the closest hotel. Completely worth the whole day. Two meals were also included and very good!

  • Not the greatest tour to take if seeing a volcano is important. The lookout point not close to the volcano and the day that we were there visibility was cloud covered. But Tubacon Hot Springs was a home run. Absolutely pristine and beautiful, highly professional staff, next time I will stay at the resort for a day or two to completely enjoy the experience.

  • Can only give this a “2l because while the hot springs were lovely and the dinner was excellent, this trip was NOT what was advertised. We did not visit the volcano or go hiking around it - in fact the tour operator said they have NEVER gone there. Long day on an uncomfortable bus - not worth it.

  • Max guide and Ricardo driver were great and very personable. The timing for each stop on the tour was enough for each destination. The lunch and dinner were better than I expected. Don't forget your bathing suit and bring flip flops or water shoes for the hot springs since some of the pools have uneven ground. Towels and locker rentals are included at the hot springs. A piece of advice though about the hotel pickups, ask in advance for the name of your guide and driver since the Hotel Aurola pick up point had multiple tour companies picking up guests at the same time.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • The tour exceeded our expectations despite the overcast day preventing good views of Arenal. Our guide, Hugo, was knowledgeable, humorous and patient. He dealt skillfully with the various personalities on the tour—an impressive feat! The hot springs at Tabacon were breathtaking. All in all a very good value

  • I read all the other reviews before signing up and they were all right on. Pick up at the hotel was on time, long drive to volcano but so worth it. Then to Tabacon Springs which was the most beautiful place Ive been...even Hawaii. Food was great, above expectations. Guide was great. Just be prepared for a long day and many hours on a bus, but worth it.

  • The two of us took the tour with Antonio in a van, along with two from Mexico and two from Puerto Rico. Antonio is probably much comfortable communicating in Spanish than in English in the morning, he would talk mostly in Spanish and only 20 in English, and he had to be reminded twice once by my trip companion and once by one of the Puerto Ricans to provide the commentaries in English also. That is on top of his heavily accented English. Then he started speaking more in English as we got near Tabacon. Also his instructions in English regarding the logistics at Tabacon was brief and we had to figure out where to get the towels ourselves, but at least he was always on time and overall we had a pleasant day.

  • The tour was great. Arsenal volcano was incredible to see with the perfect volcano shape. Tabacon springs was so relaxing. It was nice relaxing in the hot springs, surrounded by nature. Both lunch and dinner were excellent: very high quality and tasty. I really enjoyed this excursion, and highly recommend it.
