Know More about this tour

Your tour of the ARGO will include a view in the past history of the ARGO Mill and Tunnel through viewing a history movie that will explain its origins. We will offer a demonstration of mining equipment outside the gift shop and tour office, then transport you up to our ore mine the Double Eagle. From there, you will enter the 5 story ARGO Mill and descend through the myriad of artifacts left in place from the days the Mighty Argo was in full production. After you reach the bottom, you will enjoy looking through the fantastic array of mining artifacts and equipment at the base of the ARGO Mill in our museum room. It is chock full of antique photos that are great visual representations of what took place here at the ARGO and in the Idaho springs area during the Rocky Mountain Gold Rush Era. When you come out of the ARGO Mill, you will find yourself in our panning yard where we offer a gold panning lesson and assist you in finding real gold ore. And you keep what you find! We also offer gold panning and gem panning separately from the tours for late arrivers and those who have limited time but would like to enjoy some of the ARGO experience.

What a great tour! Our guide was so informative, and the mine had such an interesting story. The ARGO team was accommodating, and we loved finishing with mining gold. This is a great activity for families, but this grown adult had a BLAST!

Brandon was the perfect tour guide, super friendly and knowledgable! We got to see and learn all about the Argo Mill and it’s gold rush history followed by being taught how to gold pan! Really insightful and interesting tour and would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Thank you Brandon!

Really fascinating information for a town so close to Denver that we all knew little about. Strong and well-informed tour guide (Josh?) was great. A bit disappointed in the 'tunnel' exploration that was only 100' long - kind of expected more there, but glad it was included anyway. tim

We had a great time on the tour with our very knowledgeable and personable guide, Erin! The panning for gold was fun but more difficult than we thought it would be. We also learned so much history throughout the tour and the hands-on portion was fantastic. Thank you so much for such a wonderful tour!

Learning about how the miners lived. How loud the equipment was and how it affected the entire town. Also the release of a lot of water and the contamination. Also how this mine helped fund the entire economy.

Had Andrew as our guide. Andrew was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable. Provided great details, and stories of the day. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Kristopher was a very knowledgeable guide and very patient with all questions. It was very interesting to learn how hard the work was to get to the gold in the mines. We especially enjoyed seeing all the old tools.

I was not sure what to expect and it was amazing. So much history here and they owners/workers do a fantastic job making what could be a super boring history project into a fun and engaging conversation! Great for all ages too! Our two littles (6&3) really enjoyed it as well.
