Know More about this tour

Leave central Aix-en-Provence by luxury air-conditioned minivan, and then travel west along the coast with your private guide. Your destination is Arles, the ancient city thats made its way onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in recognition of its beautifully preserved Roman monuments some of which date back to 1st century BC.

After an hour on the road, your driver will drop you right in the center of the town, leaving you with your Arles Passport and map everything you need for four hours of independent sightseeing!

Perhaps start with a visit to Arles Ampitheater (Les Arnes), and step back in time to the early 2nd century AD when gladiators would fight to entertain a 20,000-strong crowd. Its thick stone walls are remarkably still intact, and history is indeed set in its stone. Its smaller counterpart, Arles Roman Theatre, is located just across the street, so head inside and see the pillars and columns that comprise the ruins of this intriguing attraction.

Tempted by the lure of more incredible remains? Visit Place du Forum to see where the heart of the city was during the days of the Roman Empire. Dont let the buzzing modern cafes fool you, for the ruins are craftily concealed below ground in the Cryptoportiques a tantalizing network of cellars that were carved out in the 1st century BC; head underground to check them out! Back above ground, you can visit the Constantin Baths (Thermes de Constantin) to see the ruins of the thermal baths that were built for Roman Emperor Constantin.

Your Arles Passport also includes entry to St-Trophime Church a true Romanesque beauty and two museums: Museum Rattu and Arles Museum of Antiquity. See colorful canvases depicting modern-day Provencal life in the former, and an enchanting array of antiquities in the latter.

Meet your driver at the pre-arranged time, and return to Aix in the comfort of your air-conditioned minibus. Your tour finishes back at the start point in the early evening.

Please note: The Arles Passport allows you to visit one museum and four monuments of your choice.

  • This proved a very convenient way to do a quick tour of the historic sites of Arles. 4.5 hours seems a short time, but if you have done your research beforehand and determined what you want to see and where these sites are located, it can be achieved comfortably. However, if you want to enjoy the main museum the time is probably too little. This museum is quite a distance from the drop-off and pick-up spot which is close to the centre of the old town. It also has a huge amount of material inside for viewing. To give the museum a worthwhile visit you need to miss several of the other sites. Our main target was to see the historical sites so the tour was great for us.

  • Very pleasant afternoon. The driver told us interesting things without talking too much. Price appeared a bit high but seems to be the going rate for a half day tour here in Aix. It would have been good to know the tour would not return till 7.30, rather than simply that it was leaving at 1.30. That gave us four hours in Arles which was just enough. We were worried it would be returning by 5.30 and there was no response to an email enquiry. If you take the tour please make sure you call Tylene 24 hours before to confirm. No-shows are unfair on the others who may be kept waiting.

  • This was a transportation to Arles with local info on the way. We had plenty of time to explore Arles-Cedric was a great guide.

  • Great experience! I was dropped off in Arles to tour on my own. If you're looking for a ride to Arles, it's perfect. This did not come with a guide in Arles but you were given 4hrs to view as much as you could and the guide picked you back up at the tourist office. Great deal!

  • we were a bit disappointed with Arles but all the Roman remains were fantastic I thought that there would have been more about Van Gogh and his paintings we found that we had time to spare

  • Renaud was a wonderful driver and guide, going out of his way to point out the best features of Arles prior to taking us to our drop off point. He was prompt, courteous, and kind. An amazing afternoon in Arles.

  • Amazing Roman buildings with Van Gogh interest sites. The guide was wonderful providing key information. A great trip.

  • Renault was our tour guide. Very nice and charming. Provided a brief overview, but our group found ourselves a little lost navigating Arles on our own.On Monday the Contemporary Museum is closed, so that was somewhat dissapointing. Overall, nice to see where Van Gogh painted many of his famous works.
