Meet your private guide inside Ashdod Port and travel toward Jerusalem by air-conditioned minibus, roughly an hour away. As you enter the city, stop to admire the views from the Mount of Olives, gazing out at Jerusalems sights such as the Dome of the Rock at Temple Mount Esplanade.
Hop back on board your coach and travel along Kidron Valley, past the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was said to have prayed before his crucifixion to the walls of the Armenian quarter of Jerusalems Old City.
Stop to gaze at the famous Western Wall, a site nicknamed the 'wailing wall' after the vast crowds of worshipers (both Jews and Muslims) who use it as an open-air synagogue to pray. After soaking up the atmosphere, continue by foot into the Old Citys Christian quarter to wander along the Via Dolorosa. The road was once an important pilgrimage route for Christian visitors, believed to mark the way to the site of Jesus crucifixion at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Take a walk along Jerusalems old Byzantine main street, passing through the Jewish quarter, and then return to your minibus. Your half-day tour then finishes with a drop-off at Ashdod Port.

Our guide, Raz, was professional and very knowledgeable about the sites. He knew the best places for photos and planned an efficient tour of this very busy place that enabled us to see the most important sites during our limited time. He was also friendly and I appreciated that he took photos during our tour that he shared with us at the end.

We had a wonderful private tour to Jerusalem with “ Discoveries with Dotan”. He was a marvellous young guide filled with knowledge and enthusiasm. We started on the Mount of Olives - then walked to the Garden of Gethseminee and then into the old town of Jerusalem. He took us to all the major sites but also through beautiful back streets which gave us a great flavour of the city. We finished at the wailing wall and Dohan even provided us with pen and paper to place our own messages in the wall. In all it was a marvellous experience for all - 2 children 8 and 4 and 4 adults. The only problem was getting in and out of Ashdod port. Private tours were simply NOT allowed in to pick up or leave back to the ship. We were advised to get a shuttle bus to the gate of the port and our taxi could pick us up there. Eventually we got a shuttle to take us out. The main problem was on the way back. We were dropped at the gate and were told by port security that a shuttle would pick us up. There were about 16 people all waiting and 2 shuttles drove straight past us. In desperation our guide paid a taxi driver, who had permission to enter the port, take us back to the ship. We got onboard just before the ship sailed. I know that the Port Authorities are very security conscious but to treat tourists so poorly is not good. So be warned - if you book a private tour make sure they have permission to enter the port to pick you up at the ship ! Otherwise it can prove to be very awkward.

Our guide :- ORI STERN Unfortunately our tour of 4 friends, had a bad start when we got off our ship at 8.30am and could not find our guide until 9.30. We were unable to get a clear response from the BenHarim phone number and eventually found another Ben Harim Guide, who managed to track down, by phone and asked him to drive to us. When he met us, he said he had been there since 7.30 !!!!. He had certainly not been down to where the passengers were getting off the ship with a sign as per other guides, or anywhere close. Once on the road he was more interested in talking about cars and "Top Gear", despite being told 3 times by myself that I did not watch or like the programme. Although he was informative and knowledgeable, he was always challenging and if we challenged him back, he would change the subject. We have used private tour guides many times, in Florence, Cuba, St Petersburg, South Africa etc, all have had 5 star ratings until now.

We had a fantastic trip to Jerusalem. We started early morning in Tel Aviv, got picked up from the hotel and got at the central hub to collect all participants (from all over the world). We moved on to Jerusalem on a 1,5h drive in our bus (a 16 seater or so). Yoav was excellent to explain from the very first minute what we saw around us. With humour, intelligence and emotion. All at appropriate stages and to the right time. We went to Jerusalem and looked from the mount of olives to the old city. We moved on into the old city and had walk around the historic places, saw the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, saw the different quarters (Jewish, Muslim, etc), saw the via del and moved on to the museum of holocaust. In between, Yoav explained the sights around us, while he was manoeuvring to the city. It was more than a lesson of history, especially in the museum, we all had our touching moments. So thanks again to our excellent tour guide, in which we learned a lot in that day. Thanks to the international group, which was a very nice experience also. Surely, nothing to catch up all in one day in Jerusalem, surely more questions need to be asked. For the next time to come back to Israel, to come back to Jerusalem, we will definitely look after Yoav to be our guide again… Thank you very much Yoav. Germany and Netherlands ;-)
