Be dazzled by more than 1,500 tropical jewel-colored butterflies at the Australia Butterfly Sanctuary. Located in the heart of Kuranda, the Australian butterfly sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary in Australia. Wander through the landscaped gardens that replicate the natural rainforest environment as hundreds of butterflies float around you. Complimentary tours take place through the day and a 'Behind-the-Scenes' Laboratory Tour is also included with entry.

Know More about this tour

Wander the tropical rainforest aviary where jewel-colored butterflies float in the air. See the magnificent electric blue Ulysses butterfly, or the fluorescent green and yellow Cairns birdwing. The sanctuary is home to more than 1,500 butterflies that have all been hand reared on the premises.

Visit the laboratory and learn about the breeding cycle, see how the butterfly eggs are collected and cleaned, and then hand raised into caterpillars before turning into beautiful butterflies. The museum displays many different species from around the world. Dont forget to see the moth exhibit, home to the Hercules moth with a wing span reaching up to 14 inches (36 cm).

4 Park Pass upgrade:
Save more than 20% on the single entry price by combining your visit to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary with the following top attractions.

Explore Australia's World Heritage-listed tropical rainforest at the Rainforestation Nature Park in Kuranda. The park is set on 100 acres (40 hectares) of pristine rainforest within five minutes’ drive of Kuranda village, accessible from Cairns by road or by the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or the Kuranda Scenic Railway (transport between Cairns and Kuranda is not included). This eco-friendly Kuranda attraction offers three unique experiences: the Army Duck Rainforest Tours with Tropical Fruit Orchard, Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, and the Koala and Wildlife Park.

Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas:
Get up close to Australian native flora and fauna at Wildlife Habitat located just outside of Port Douglas. There are three different environments to explore—the Wetlands, Rainforest and Grasslands, each with unique habitats.

Cairns Wildlife Dome:
Discover the sights and sounds of the rainforest right in the heart of Cairns at the Cairns Wildlife Dome. See native birds fly freely around you in the glass-enclosed rooftop dome, get eye-to-eye with Goliath the saltwater crocodile, and meet reptiles, wallabies and koalas.

Please note: You do not need to visit all the attractions in one day. Entry for subsequent attractions is valid for one month from the date of entry for the first attraction.

    a beautiful experience

We purchased the 4-park pass and others who do so should be aware that the parks are not co-located. Rainforest Station and the Butterfly Sanctuary are close together in Kuranda while the Wildlife Habitat is about an hour north of Cairns and the wildlife dome is on top of the Reef Casino in downtown Cairns. That said, all the parks were clean and the critters appeared to be well cared for.
The aborigine exhibitions and duck boat ride at Rainforest Station were well worth the price.
At the butterfly sanctuary, the butterflies were quite beautiful, swirling around visitors in swarms and readily landing on bright clothing. There's a little café next door that serves an excellent aussie burger.
The wildlife habitat was fairly large - My wife and I spent 4 or 5 hours there.
