Overview

Tap into your sense of adventure in Banff, Alberta, with the Via Ferrata experience, an activity that lets you climb to unprecedented heights. Via ferrata is Italian for iron road, and Banffs Via Ferrata is just that: a protected climbing route that allows novice and expert climbers alike to ascend a mountain by way of a steel cable that is fixed to the rock. And scenic Banff is the perfect place to try this technique. This is a fun, safe and adventurous way to get out of your comfort zone and experience the thrill of the mountains.

Know More about this tour

Travel to Mt Norquay to meet your certified guide, who will teach you all about this exciting activity and how to experience it safely. Learn how to use your equipment and get ready for the experience of a lifetime, set in beautiful Banff National Park, along the Rockies of Alberta.

As you begin your ascent up the mountain above the Mt. Norquay ski area, take a moment to admire the stunning scenery: Alberta’s sawtooth mountains jut into the blue sky while trees populate the lower foothills. Channel your inner thrill seeker as you continue upward, guided by a series of cables and ladders and a suspension bridge that makes what would otherwise be an arduous journey into a safe adventure. At the end of your climb, enjoy the relaxing ride back to your hotel.

Choose from two routes:

The Explorer Route This will give you a 2.5-hour introduction to this adrenaline-fueled activity, including an introduction to the equipment. Then you’ll venture along some of the lower pitches and across the scenic suspension bridge.

The Ridgewalker RouteThis 4-hour tour is great for adventurers who want to take their experience further, on a 4-hour tour. Tackle vertical drops, conquer spectacular overlooks and cross the suspension bridge.

  • Fantastic mountain climbing experience. Our family of 4 had no experience so we chose the Explorer route 2.5 hours.
It was quite manageable and at the same time very exciting! We all felt like we challenged ourselves and accomplished
something. Our guide, Cathy, was outstanding - provided guidance, patience, and made for a very safe experience. The views
from the side of the mountain were spectacular. We were extremely happy we booked this excursion.

  • Highlight of our trip! Robby gave us an unforgettable adventure and made us feel safe

  • We loved this experience and the guide was exceptional. He ensured our safety and told great stories to keep us laughing. We found it challenging and for sure this isn't for everyone. I recommend people that are in good physical health.

  • The best experience. Our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and fun. The climb was exciting with some of the most incredible views Ive seen. Can wait to try more Via Ferrata and to go back to Banff. This is a must do.

  • If you are an experienced climber, this may not impress you but for someone who never did anything like this before, it was amazing! I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Banff although it is not for the faint of heart and you should be in fairly good shape.

  • This was an outstanding adventure and our guide Kim was exceptional! While challenging at times our group ascended Mt Norquay with lots of laughs and great stories. A definite repeat trip with friends and family.

  • So amazing! Worth every dollar.

  • So amazing! Worth every dollar.

  • Great experience

  • My wife and I have done rock and ice climbing for many years in Colorado and Wyoming, and really enjoyed this 4 hour climb. The scenery was outstanding, the via Ferrata extremely well-marked. You can also do this route mostly rock climbing if you want to. Eric was an excellent leader who instilled confidence in several people in our group who have never done rock climbing. Well worth the time and money spent. I would do this adventure again it was that much fun!!
