Overview

Tap into your sense of adventure in Banff, Alberta, with the Via Ferrata experience, an activity that lets you climb to unprecedented heights. Via Ferrata is Italian for iron road, and Banff's Via Ferrata is just that: a protected climbing route that allows novice and expert climbers alike to ascend a mountain by way of a steel cable that is fixed to the rock. And scenic Banff is the perfect place to try this technique. This is a fun, safe and adventurous way to get out of your comfort zone and experience the thrill of the mountains.

Know More about this tour

Following is the itinerary that we typically follow during the climbing adventure.

Visit Mt Norquay, where the Via Ferrata is located. You can enjoy trails and dining opportunities before or after your Via Ferrata experience.
Pass By: Mt. Norquay, Banff National Park, Alberta
Travel to Mt Norquay to meet your certified guide, who will teach you all about this exciting activity and how to experience it safely. Learn how to use your equipment and get ready for the experience of a lifetime, set in the beautiful Banff National Park, along the Rockies of Alberta.
As you begin your ascent up the mountain above the Mt. Norquay ski area, take a moment to admire the stunning scenery: Alberta's sawtooth mountains jut into the blue sky while trees populate the lower foothills. Channel your inner thrill-seeker as you continue upward, guided by a series of cables and ladders and a suspension bridge that makes what would otherwise be an arduous journey into a safe adventure.
Choose from two routes:
- The Explorer Route: This will give you a 2.5-hour introduction to this adrenaline-fueled activity, including an introduction to the equipment. Then you'll venture along some of the lower pitches and across the scenic suspension bridge.
- The Ridgewalker Route: This 4-hour tour is great for adventurers who want to take their experience further. Tackle vertical drops, conquer spectacular overlooks and cross the suspension bridge.
Please note: No climbing experience is necessary, but it is recommended that you be physically fit enough to climb a ladder.

I am afraid of heights, but did not want to miss out on an opportunity to experience such an epic adventure. The guide was awesome and checked in frequently to see how I was doing. I was scared, but was so glad I did this. It was an incredible experience with outstanding views.
    Highly recommend!

We went on the 2 hour Ferrata Climb with our 3 children (ages 16, 18, 23) and had a spectacular time. Our guide Kevin was pleasant and patient with everyone in the group and always made us feel comfortable and safe. Was such a special experience for the whole family, and AMAZING views of the Banff scenery from a very unique perspective! Would highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Banff.

Fantastic mountain climbing experience. Our family of 4 had no experience so we chose the Explorer route 2.5 hours.
It was quite manageable and at the same time very exciting! We all felt like we challenged ourselves and accomplished
something. Our guide, Cathy, was outstanding - provided guidance, patience, and made for a very safe experience. The views
from the side of the mountain were spectacular. We were extremely happy we booked this excursion.

We loved this experience and the guide was exceptional. He ensured our safety and told great stories to keep us laughing. We found it challenging and for sure this isn't for everyone. I recommend people that are in good physical health.

The best experience. Our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and fun. The climb was exciting with some of the most incredible views Ive seen. Can wait to try more Via Ferrata and to go back to Banff. This is a must do.

If you are an experienced climber, this may not impress you but for someone who never did anything like this before, it was amazing! I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Banff although it is not for the faint of heart and you should be in fairly good shape.

This was an outstanding adventure and our guide Kim was exceptional! While challenging at times our group ascended Mt Norquay with lots of laughs and great stories. A definite repeat trip with friends and family.
