Know More about this tour

Choose from two start times and make your way to the meeting point in central Salzburg. Leave the city by coach and travel along the Deutsche Alpenstrasse, a magnificent road that cuts through the Bavarian Alps. Admire the backdrop of alpine scenery as you pass alongside the banks of Knigsee River, and then stop at Obersalzberg where Berchtesgaden Salt mines await.

Head inside the centuries-old mine, and get changed into a traditional miners uniform, which is provided as you enter. Hear some of the history of the site, and learn about the salt mining traditions in Berchtesgaden that date back to the 12th century.

Using the same slides as hundreds of miners before you, descend to the grottos of the mines with your guide and explore the subterranean salt world by foot and mini-train. Watch a short film to learn about the origins of the salt deposits, and finish your underground trip on a high note with a raft cruise around the lake.

Return back to ground level, hand back your miners uniform and travel onward to the town of Berchtesgaden. Take a short tour of the town before your return to central Salzburg.

Had such a great time! Loved the history shared by our incredible guide as he showed us the most incredible views. Would do again!

It was terrible we had no guidance by Walter our guide and missed the tour he told us to stay on bus

The Panorama trip was fantastic. Johannes was a great guide but Viator were terrible. They advertise a 20% discount if you refer a friend and they do not honour this. Suggest you book direct with the tour operator and prevent Viator from profiting.

The views were great and the salt mines were incredible. I wish we had known the salt mines were in Germany since we looked up best things to do in Austria and this came up. We could have saved a trip from Munich. 😅 I can't leave 5 stars since we were rushed a full 15 minutes earlier than the stated departure time from the salt mines. And then rushed again from the shopping break in town. Made for stressful and not as pleasant experience. We missed out on some nice shops we wanted to visit.

Informative and entertaining, the experience provides a deep-dive into the salt mine’s history and the life of the miners who worked there. Absolutely worthwhile.

The overall tour was fine. The salt mines were fun and interesting. One thing that was frustrating was they had combined the eagles nest tour and the salt mines tour transportation. So we had to go out of our way and wait for the second group.

What a great tour. Most of the time with tours like this they charge you a lot of money and then under deliver with some crappy built displays. But this is not like those. This is still a real working mine. The working part is below the tourist area, but it’s evident that the parts you get to see were part of the real deal mine in the past. The tour service did a great job in providing comfortable transportation into and out of the mine, constant cooled air, and adequate lighting. We were 130m deep at the deepest part, and over 800m into the mountain at times. It was well worth the cost and time. FYI, after the salt mine, the bus drops you off in a little village for about 30 minutes of free time to walk around. Many little cool shops to see and walk into. Highly recommend.

This was a disappointing experience. Don’t get me wrong, the salt mines were wonderful and we had a great time. Our guide in the salt mines was fantastic. Our issues were with the bus tour guide who failed to give us any real information as to when the bus would pick us up after being dropped off and other items. We then went into the town for all of 40 minutes which gives you no time to really do anything in the town. Just a waste of time for that part only because we didn’t have enough time to see the cute little town. Bus tour guide was rude and curt when asked questions. Bus driver was very pleasant and helpful.

The tour started on time and involved a bus ride to Germany where we toured an active underground Sal mine. The tour guide was knowledgable and the bus was clean. The driver operated the bus safely. We were taken to a small village after the mine and we spent some time walking around. It was overall an excellent and well delivered tour. Unfortunately, the bus did not offer Wi-Fi which limited our connectivity…

The salt mines were interesting, however we booked an English speaking tour and were put in a German speaking one. We didnt understand what was being said or what the signs said as it was all in German. It was also pretty over priced for only being inside the salt mines for around 60 minutes. The slides were fun and the under ground boat was too. After you come out of the mines, the tour guide takes you to a small village/town for some over priced apple strudel which is okay but not worth €11. I would recommend going to the salt mines, just arrange your own transport there as it will be significantly cheaper.
