Your private guide and driver will meet you in the lobby of Beijing hotel at 08:00 and transfer you to Tiananmen Square. After a brief orientation of Tiananmen Square, the worlds largest city centre square, you will walk the length of the square learning about the imposing Government Buildings that surround it.
Tiananmen literally means Gate of Heavenly Peace and after a stroll through the Square, you arrive at the Tiananmen gate, the entrance to the Forbidden City. Here your guide will assist you in bypassing the long queues of people waiting to enter this fabled city and very quickly, you will be inside.
Your visit to the Forbidden City starts with a visit to the newly opened city wall at the east gate from where you can overlook the spectacular city. Your visit will also include not only all of the most visited buildings and chambers, but also a special visit to other private buildings such as the Treasury and the Instruments. Your guide will escort you slowly through this spectacular site explaining about its history and the different buildings you will see. The visit will last at least 3 hours.
After visiting, you will have a lunch at Beihai Fangshan Restaurantwhich provides imitation Imperial Court Cuisine, a style of food with origins served in the Imperial Palace. Based on foods served to the Emperor and his court, Imitation Imperial Court Cuisine try to imitate the imperial court cuisine.
After your exclusive lunch you continue to the famous Beijing Hutongs. Your Hutong culture tour will start from Shijia Hutong Museum, the first public museum dedicated to hutong life courtyard homes. The museum has eight rooms depicting the history and life in the Shijia Hutong during the second half of the 20th century. The name Hutong comes from the Mongolian word for well because historically people would build their homes close to or around a well. Nowadays Hutong means a lane way or alley. This is a fascinating area of Beijing with long lane ways of grey-tiled buildings and your visit will include a rickshaw ride through the narrow lane ways where you can observe the different streets and alleyways and the local people going about their everyday lives.
After walking through the museum and Hutongs, you will be transferred back to you hotel.
