Overview

Every city has its shopping and coffee culture but Belfast city has a unique past after coming out of 30 years of conflict.Your guides are the original drivers who had to transport their communities through the bullets and bombs of THE TROUBLES and have their lives at risk every time they seat in their black cabs.
The North of Ireland has become famous for the murals painted in almost every area of the country . These pictures of IRA ,UVF murals are often flashed around the world on news bulletins or used as a backdrop when interviewing people. They often depict the history and political views of both traditions and are a way of marking territory. These wall paintings often look intimidating but they have become as much of a tourist attraction as many of the regular attractions within Belfast and beyond.

Jim was our driver & gave us a running commentary on the political murals, showing us the Peace Wall & 'Checkpoint Charlie'. He gave us time to ask any questions & take photographs. We were given an amazing insight on 'The Troubles' & learnt that it was much more than a conflict about religious differences.

Brendan gave a well balanced history of Ireland's struggle. He was real, having lived through the troubles , he was able to share his first hand experience. He gave us an excellent perspective of both sides of the conflict. even though he was a member of the IRA. His personal goal is for peace. We would not hesitate to recommend him a an excellent tour guide for Black Taxi Tours.

No one should visit Belfast without doing this tour. The driver/guides talk openly about the issues and don't gloss over the atrocities. Yet they also inspire with desire to end all hostility as soon as possible. Our guide Stevie, was very unbiased and so positive about a peaceful Belfast in the future. Highly recommended !

Our driver Tony (Belfast Tours) was truly amazing. We cannot speak highly enough about him. We were a party of 4 from Glasgow, who have a good idea about the Catholic /Protestant issues that it can cause. However, Tony took us by taxi, then got us out the taxi at different areas and told us the full history, which we weren’t fully aware of. You can start to understand why the violence, once it started, would be difficult to stop. That’s why we are of the view that the Good Friday Agreement has to be honoured before the next generation of young men and woman are potentially put through this. Peace has to be the way forward for all parties. Tony, if you get to read this, thank you so much for today and the story you ended the tour with. We will never forget it!!

Our driver was fantastic. He gave us a real insight into 'the Troubles', what led up to them and how they have changed the politics in NI. I would advise all visitors to the six counties to take this experience and learn a little. Shop around too. Our drive was just £50 for two people, others were double and more for the same time frame. We found it from a flyer in our hotel, don't be fooled by internet booking prices.

The tour guide named Davy gave us both a personal and highly insightful account of the situation from the 60s until the Good Friday Agreement. He also spoke about the situation today. His knowledge and Belfast wit really contributed to our excellent experience and understanding of events. I would highly recommend this tour.
