Overview

Visit the Bulgarian town of Belogradchik on this guided, full-day, minibus tour from Sofia. Just180 kilometers north of Sofia, nature has sculpted the amazing Belogradchik rocks, a group of strange shaped sandstone and conglomerate rock formations. The view from the old fortress of the fascinating formations is breathtaking. Use some imagination and visions of 'the Rabbit,' 'Adam and Eve,' 'the Ice-Age Squirrel,' 'the Rebel' and many more can be seen. On the way back to Sofia, visit a beautiful cave called Venetsa (aka the Wreath). This small-group tour includes a Sofia hotel pickup and drop-off.

Know More about this tour

The fortress has existed since Roman times. In 1st 3rd century AD the Romans built roads in the new provinces of the empire on the Balkan peninsula, as well as fortresses to guard them.
On the way we can enjoy the funny-looking forms of the rocks and use our imagination to "see" the figures of the Madonna, the Rabbit, the Turtle, The Ice-Age Squirrel, the Rebel and many more, learn the history of the Fortress during the different periods, hear the frightening legends of prisoners and rebels.
We drive to a nearby newly-opened cave Venetsa (The Wreath), smaller in size than Magura cave but more impressive and shorter drive from Belogradchik. It contains only natural formations.

The guide was knowledgeable, transportation was fast and safe, the site was really impressive. We stopped for lunch in a very good local restaurant! Overall a great day

They picked me up in front of the hotel where I was staying in Sofia and we made the trip in a very small group, so the guide made it like a VIP tour. Even the way to the attractions was very beautiful and the Belogradchik Fortress is a fantastic place to visit, with its surreal rock formations. Also the Venetsa Cave that we visited is extremely beautiful and looks like something out of a dream. The guide was very kind, funny and very knowledgeable. We also stopped for lunch at a typical bulgarian restaurant with excellent traditional "real food" (as the guide told me), in a very cozy and heartwarming place, as an experience that was good even to fill the soul. In the end I was dropped back at the same hotel. It was perfect and I highly recommend the experience.

Unfortunately I had to cancel this tour because I was ill (and we all know that during this pandemic situation we can't take any risk, not for ourselves and not for the others). We agreed on doing the tour on another day, but unfortunately after my cancellation all the communication stopped and I didn't receive responses to my messages. So at the end, I didn't do any tour and I didn't get a refund either. I was only told that the touroperator didn't feel any responsibility. So if you are looking for a friendly touroperator with good communication skills than I can't recommend this one. But the tour might be awesome, I have no idea.

It's a long time in the car. But, the scenery is beautiful, the castle interesting and the lunch as excellent. Our tour guide was excellent.
