Know More about this tour

Departure for Berat at 9:00 am and you will be transferred towards this beautiful city for around 2,5 hours. This is one of the oldest and the pride of Albanian architecture.   The three major neighborhoods of the old city are Mangalemi, Gorica, and Kala where the castle itself is located.   You will start our tour with the castle area. Visiting the 'Kala' involves a steep walk up a cobbled path, but those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a fine view of the surrounding area. You will visit the Museum of Iconography 'Onufri' which bears the name of the renowned fresco and icon-painter Onufri, who has left a rich inheritance. This museum is located within the cathedral of St. Mary’s Assumption. You will also visit the Red Mosque, recognized by its lonely minaret and St. Trinity Church.   After the fortress you will visit the Mangalemi quarter and the National Ethnographic Museum. This museum is located in one of the most characteristic and interesting houses of the town, a rich assemblage of traditional objects (more than 1000) and is one of the greatest examples of Berat’s long history and culture.   Across the Osumi River lies the Gorica neighborhood, whose houses face those of Mangalemi. The arched bridge of Gorica, built in 1780, is a beautiful architectural monument constructed to link Gorica with Mangelemi. Free time to stroll in the bridge.   After the tour, optional lunch in a restaurant with traditional cuisine (at extra cost)   Return to Tirana and end of service.

The trip is very well organized. The guide shared his good knowledge on Albanian history and culture. However, time control can be improved. Very recommend for those want a short visit in this heritage town.

Our guide Ilyr was excellent, he had a very good knowledge of the religious art at Berat and gave us insightful explanations of Albania’s history and culture. I finished the tour with a far better understanding of the country.

Magnifique excursion avec notre guide Ilir, parfaitement professionnel il nous a donné beaucoup d'explications très intéressantes tout au long de la journée, Berat est une excursion à ne pas manquer. Traverser la campagne albanaise est également très intéressante. Merci.

This day was a great mix of walking, sightseeing and cultural tourism with our guide Ilir having an outstanding knowledge of Albania, Balkan history and iconography of the churches within the Berat castle. The castle grounds still have residents. Ilir also filled us in on the area of lakes and local surprises (working oil derricks) of the region. We chilled out opposite the town of a 1000 windows with some excellent meatballs. Recommended.

We had an excellent day tour of Berat and surroundings with Ilir. The tour was in the more expensive side of things but we all had a wonderful day with the extremely knowledgeable and accommodating Illir. He had first class knowledge of everywhere we went and seemed well known, getting us easy access to everywhere we wanted to visit. From the tour around the hilltop castle of Berat with stop off at a locals house for fig jam, to the walk over Berats famous bridge and visit to a local mediaeval house, our family enjoyed every minute - and learned loads about Albanias history. First class! He was extremely accommodating with our two young children. Asking regularly if we wanted to stop. He even treated them to ice creams.
