Know More about this tour

Meet at Pariser Platz in the morning to begin your 3-hour small-group walking tour. Your guide, an expert historian, will explain the history of WWII and Hitlers Nazi regime while leading you through central Berlin and along the remains of the Berlin Wall toward your final destination: the Topography of Terror.

As you walk, learn about the rise and fall of the Nazis during Germany's darkest period, from 1933 to 1945, when Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist Party steered the country into war and terror. Listen as your guide points out monuments designed by Hitlers chief architect, Albert Speer, that bear witness to the dictatorial reign of the Third Reich.

Learn what sparked Hitlers rise to power as you stroll from the Reichstag, Germanys parliament building, to Brandenburg Gate. Here, you can look down one of the main boulevards of Speers proposed plan for the new monumental center of 'World Capital Germania,' as Nazi Berlin was to be renamed.

Pause for a moment of reflection and remembrance at the enigmatic Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. Then continue through the former Wilhemstrasse government quarter, passing many other Nazirelated sites, memorials and buildings including Hitlers Chancellery, the former Reich Ministry of Aviation (Luftwaffe), the major offices that orchestrated the war and the Fhrerbunker, the underground bunker complex where Hitler resided.

Arrive at the Topography of Terror, located on the site of the former Gestapo and SS headquarters. During a self-guided tour, learn how the museums intentioned location speaks to Berlins efforts at confronting and grappling with its horrific and tragic past.

See the excavated cellars where political prisoners were tortured and executed, and explore the indoor exhibits for a comprehensive, chronological look at the history, development and demise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. Youll leave this 3-hour tour with a deeper understanding of how this legacy has shaped Berlin today.

  • The original guide did not show but another Viator guide was there and took on the task. His name is Sven. He was excellent.

  • Great tour. My son and I are big history buffs and believe me this tour guide knew his stuff. It was interesting to stand on the exact spot where Hitler was last seen alive, The guide brought a laptop and played vintage films of the area in World War 2. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in German history.

  • The guide gave a good historical perspective of the events. We actually did not visit any building inside. A quicker factual tour that routes inside Reichstag and topography of terror exhibition etc, may be a suggestion. Good for tourists who have some understanding of WWII.

  • Very disappointed with this entire experience. Our guide spent more time talking about architecture and showing us embassy buildings, then anything that related to what the tour was actually to be about. I, nor my boyfriend, took anything positive away form this experience. We learned NOTHING at all about the Third Reich or Topography of Terror. We paid for entry into a museum which NEVER happened! We were late getting started, and did not have this time compensated. We barely saw any memorials or anything that had to do with the war era, which was out main reason for travelling from Canada. Our architectural guide insisted on taking many breaks so he could lean, or sit. He spent more time telling us why something was build the way it was or complaining about people taking selfies than actually teaching us anything. This entire tour was a complete and utter waste of money and time for the one day we had in Berlin to experience its culture and war history. I am unsure if the same tour provided by other guides is as disappointing, and wish I knew our guides name as I do not want to diminish the reputation but instead am more disappointed by our individual guide.

  • This was fantastic - limited to a group of 6 we got taken around Berlin by Sven our guide, as he explained a little further from what we knew of some of the monuments. Brandenburg Tor was easily the most impressive - it's sheer size alone was amazing.

This is a great tour if you only have a short amount of time and is still quite detailed due to the small size.

  • Very informative! And Zven our guide was great!!

  • This experience was really disappointing and I wouldnt recommend it. I have wanted to visit Berlin since I was a little girl and this tour just fell short of all expectations.
We were greatly disappointed when we came to find out that our tour guide wasnt from Berlin- he wasnt even German- and the tour guide in training wasnt even European- he was from Florida! Both guys had lived in Berlin for quite awhile, so I suppose that is better than nothing
It was very cold, to be expected in the end of February, but we did far too much standing around for no reason- looking at laminated hand outs. It was a very small group just me, my friend, and a tour guide in training which would normally be ideal, but we felt it made the experience a bit more awkward. As we walked around we felt that there was too much dead air time, we stopped at an extra spot than the tour normally does and the tour was cut short by about 30 minutes from the original times advised. As we walked we were told about the history we were seeing, and stories about the areas that we were walking in- but later found out that some of those fun facts werent actually factual at all- when we took the hop on hop off bus tour later in the day we came to find out that some of what we were told wasnt accurate. We actually found the hop on hop off experience to be more educational, and it was only a fraction of the cost. Overall this was a waste of time, a waste of money and a real disappointment.

  • Interesting and informative, with an East Berlin born guide who gave us a personal perspective.

  • Our guide had a lot of knowledge about both the Nazi Era and the Cold War Era. It was a fascinating trip and interesting to hear his take on things, as well as learn from a very knowledgable, studied guide on the history of Berlin.

  • Our tour of the Third Reich in Berlin was on 6 December2014. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip very enjoyable and informative. The weather was very cold and Berlin was overflowing with tourists at that time which made walking around quite difficult - however the guide was very professional and made the tour very special.
