Know More about this tour

This Kayak, Hike, and Snorkel Adventure is the best way to explore the Mangrove Lagoon in St. Thomas. It begins as you make your way in a kayak through the many small islands of the Mangrove Lagoon to Long Point and Patricia Cay. From there, enjoy breathtaking scenic views from the coral rubble barrier reef. Your guide will point out coral and shells, as well as interesting marine life, including bristle stars, sea urchins, chitons, and possibly even an octopus—all of which can be easily seen in the very shallow and clear waters.

From there, continue paddling through mangrove alleyways. Look up for nesting pelicans or peek down for eagle rays swimming in the water under you. Even pass over several shipwrecks below as you make your way through the lagoon.

The hiking portion of the tour begins once you arrive at the 15-acre deserted island of Cas Cay. Now a wildlife sanctuary, it is made up of mangrove forests to the south and volcanic cliffs to the north. As you explore on foot you will learn about the importance of the mangrove ecosystem and how to identify various tropical plants, including their edible and medicinal uses. Enjoy a 15-minute stroll at a leisurely pace and take in the scenic view from a coral and rubble beach.

Once you arrive at the south side of Cas Cay, you will be among impressively large boulders flanked on either side by volcanic cliffs. It’s also home to the famous Red Point Blow Hole, a unique geological phenomenon. This is the spot where you will rest and enjoy a picnic lunch from a local market with your guide.

After lunch, you will hike to the coral-fringed mangrove nursery, which begins the snorkel portion of the tour. Your guide will take you on a 45-minute journey through the shallow marine habitat. Explore the sea grass, mangrove nursery, and learn about the nuances and complexities of the abundant marine life that inhabit in this dynamic ecosystem. Guides offer snorkeling instruction for first-timers or for those who want a few extra tips to make the most of the experience.
