Know More about this tour

Leave central Braov by air-conditioned car or minivan and head south to the village of Rnov, nestled beneath the Bucegi Mountains in the Southern Carpathian range.
As you travel, hear historical tales about Rnov Fortress, the citadel built by Teutons in the 13th century to stave off Tartar invasion. Set on a wooded hill above Rnov, the chunky stone fortress is stacked with red-tiled turrets and buildings, making it look like a walled village.
After around 30 minutes on the road, head inside Rnov (own expense) with your guide. Walk around the courtyards and ramparts, and admire the sweeping views from the walls. See the fortress well as your guide explains the legend surrounding it, and hear how medieval villagers would live in the fortress as a refuge in times of war.
Opt to have lunch (own expense) in Rnov if you wish or continue straight to Bran Castle, the 14th-century Transylvanian fortress-palace linked to the legend of Count Dracula, the vampire of Bram Stokers 1897 novel.
Admire the high-turreted hilltop castle on approach and pay at the entrance (own expense) to go inside. Wander the eerie rooms filled with Gothic furniture and armoury as your guide unravels the castles links with Dracula, sparked by its association with Vlad the Impaler. This brutal 15th century nobleman was imprisoned in the castle in 1462 and known for impaling enemies on stakes.
Having investigated the Dracula legend, hop in your minivan or car, and return to Braov where your tour ends at the start point. Alternatively, opt to stay on in the countryside and extend your tour (own expense, paid on the day of your tour) by three or four hours to visit nearby Pele Castle.
If you continue, drive to the town of Siniai and visit 19th-century Pele Castle (own expense), considered one of Europes most beautiful. Ogle its grandiose rooms with a castle guide, and, then visit its impressive neighbour, Pelior Castle, before ending your tour back in Braov.

  • Driver/guide was excellent. Took the time to show me everything, including things not on the official tour I was the only person on this tour. Vehicle van was clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

  • Our tour guide Dan was very knowledgeable on all of the history of the castles, the royal family and Romania in general. He picked us up on time and we spent the entire day with him going to all of the various points on the tour. He was very flexible and allowed us to make choices about where we wanted to go since we were his only clients that day. One of the best points of the tour was that we were able to skip all of the long lines that other large tours had to endure. He knew his way around all of the castles and we felt like we really got the insider tour. His English was very good and he even sang some opera for us in the car quite nice! The tour ended well into the later afternoon, so we decided to have dinner. Dan took us to a local restaurant he knew. We got right in and had a very nice local dinner. Great tour, highly recommended.

  • This was one of the best tours we have ever taken! Our guide Charlie was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and made it a fun experience for all of us. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Romania.

  • Charlie was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. This is my second time with this travel company and I would book it again! Great tour.

  • Our guy Charlie aka Karoly was such an amazing guide! He really did took his time to explain everything in details, including some history that were long forgotten. He picked us up at our hotel near city centre and dropped us off at the same place again, not before offering to drive us to the train station to get our tickets for Bucharest days later. We were very impressed with his attentiveness and genuine care that we booked another tour to Sibiu with him again 2 days later. Without doubt, again, his professionalism in this matter was beyond words. He was almost always able to answer all of our questions about the history of the town itself and all the places that we visited. It was truly worth the ride and we definitely had learned more than enough about Romania than we would have ever could, all because of him! I highly recommend him to anyone who's looking for a guide in Romania who is not only informative but also passionate about it.

  • This guided tour is a must if youre visiting Brasov. Our guide, Mihai, was excellent from start to finish. He is a very knowledgeable man with years of experience, including mountain guide experience.
I had planned this day trip with a group of 7, during off-season, and although we didnt get to experience the beautiful Carpathian Mountains in summer or fall, the Winter still had a beauty of its own - not to mention way less tourist traffic in the busier attractions fantastic bonus.
We all got what we expected, and then some, from Mihai. I really cant express enough gratitude for his genuine care for the tourism business and love for his own country. We were able to experience this day during a historical moment in Romanias history. The last King of Romania had recently passed away and every major spot we stopped had some memorial for him. Peles Castle, had the biggest memorial, with prayer candles and saddened Romanians around, remembering their beloved leader, who had lived most of his days exiled in Switzerland after 1947 when his throne was abdicated.
I could go on about this day, but to end this off - Active Day Tours was incredible and myself and the group left Brasov having known we couldnt have spent the day any better. Aside from the tour, Mihai recommended a beautiful uphill hike in Seven Ladders Canyon and an incredibly delicious restaurant, Gaura Dulce, where we enjoyed some traditional Romanian Cuisine!

    Cheers and mulțumesc!!

  • We had an amazing time. Our tour guide was especially great. You could tell he really enjoys the job.

  • It was perfect, better than i expected. As a romanian citizen I strongly recomand this tour.

  • This tour is way better if we leave Brasov so it was a really awsome choice.

  • Active Travel Tours and the guide Karoly are 5 stars.
