As you reach the gateway of the White Washed Villages Route, the beauty of the landscape where olive trees and sunflower fields blend harmoniously will charm you. Perched on a hill 200 metres above sea level, Arcos de la Frontera stretches majestically over the Guadalete valley. It has been inhabited since prehistorical times.

Your friendly guide will take you around the historical centre (declared World Historical Site) where the maze-like narrow streets, ancient archways and breath-taking views will enchant you. Some of the sights you will see include Los Duques Castle (15th century), the Matrera Gateway (11th century) ,the Santa María Basilica and San Pedro Church. as well as the remains of Arcos Castle (15th century fortress) filled with well maintained palaces and manor houses.

Shopping is one of the highlights in Arcos as there is a wide range of local products including the finest Andalusian wines and Sherries, locally produced fine pottery, leather items and handicrafts to pick from. A coffee break in one of the cosy medieval corners will enhance your feel of the town and take you back in ancient time.

On your way to Vejer de la Frontera, you will go across the famous “Ruta del Torro”, the bull route where hundreds of bulls can be seen breading peacefully. On route, you will see Medina Sidonia, one of the most authentic village around. You will visit the 16th century Iglesia Paroquial Matriz de Santa Maria La Mayor full of incredible artwork.

Located on the top of a beautiful hill, Vejer de la Frontera boasts Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moorish heritage and was used by all civilisations as a fortress town. As you explore the Old Quarter, you will see the 11th century castle as well as the 14th century Divino Salvador Parish Church and the impressive Jewish Quarter. The most outstanding civil buildings in the town are the Baroque Palace of the Marquis of Tamarón and the Mayorazgo House.

Your guide will take you inside some of the local white washed houses famous for their stunning inner patios and medieval watching towers. You will also enjoy all the impressive viewpoints all around the town and the archs that connect the different parts of the historical centre.  An absolute must see is Plaza España despite its small size remains one of the most picturesque squares in Southern Spain .
