Departing from Cagliari, drive for 2.5-hours in a minivan through the amazing Sardinian countryside towards the northwest of the island.Explore one of Sardinia's most beautiful medieval cities on a tour of Alghero, the island's main resort town in the northwest. Discover its unique character and proud, independent spirit.
Capo Caccia, you should visit at least once in your life: the only way to truly admire the beauty of this place and perceive its charm is in person. Neptunes grotto is one of the largest marine caves in Italy and one of the most captivating gems of nature in the Mediterranean. The Cave formed about two million years ago: inside, you will see rooms with astounding karst formations, a white sandy beach, and a vast underground lake. The Coves de Nept (in the Catalan language) was discovered by a fisherman in the 18th century and soon became a tourist attraction. It extends horizontally for about four kilometers on the same level as the surface of the sea. Neptunes Cave has located 24 km from Alghero and is the pride and joy of the marine protected area of Capo Caccia-Isola Piana, inside the Porto Conte Park.
The architecture of their construction testifies to the extraordinary skills of the fascinating and mysterious Nuragic civilization. The Palmavera complex is located on the peninsula of the same name, one and a half kilometer from the sea, within the Porto Conte Park, in the province of Alghero. Built with blocks of limestone and sand, consisting of a central body with two towers and a bulwark, plus the huts of a village: today there are less than 50, but experts estimate that number to have ranged between 150 and 200 when the town was inhabited. The village was built in several phases. The first phase (15th-14th centuries BC) included the central tower, eight meters high and with a diameter of ten meters, inside which there is a large central chamber with beehive roofs. A flight of stairs led to the upper level and a terrace. Later (9th century BC), another tower was added, connected to the first using a patio and a corridor. The large meeting hut was built in the same period.
Within the valley are 38 graves dug into the sandstone, dating back to 3200-2800 BC, in which even the stone picks used to excavate them were found. Discovered in 1903, the hypogea necropolis of Anghelu Ruju is located in the Alghero hinterland, less than ten kilometers from the sea, in a fertile plain crossed by the Rio Filibertu. The sepulchral area occupies two zones, in which tombs are distributed irregularly. There are seven in the first flatter zone and 31 in the second, on a small hill. The sepulture Domus de Janas (meaning House of the Fairies or Witchs House) have two access types: a rather narrow well-type, from which an irregular layout and curvilinear cellae extend, the other a dromos, being with an open-air corridor, sometimes of quite large dimensions, equipped with steps at the entrance. In this case, the hypogea layout is regular, and the cellae have a straight profile.
Here in Alghero, you will enjoy a walking tour with our guide through its alleys, the cathedral, and much more.Relax and enjoy a lunch (not included) a live one day like a Catalan, that is why Alghero is called the little Barcelona.
Your local guide will be keen to make the tour as personal as possible. He will assist you with his expertise and recall amusing anecdotes for you before driving you back to your hotel.

Our day started with a 7.00 pick up from Cagliari. We were apprehensive about such a long trip to the north west of Sardinia. But our driver/guide Ricardo was excellent. He gave a great running commentary along the way and the countryside is fascinating. Alghero is a pretty little walled city but the highlight of the trip was the visit to Neptune’s Cave and the surrounding area by boat. After the boat trip and lunch there were visits to prehistoric sites. A Nuraghe and a prehistoric burial ground. We didn’t get back until 20.00 hrs but a very fulfilling day with excellent guiding. Not for those who tire easily but a great way to see a completely different side of Sardinia if you are based in Cagliari.
