Know More about this tour

Leave central Aix-en-Provence, and travel west, passing through the Roman town of Arles, toward the Camargue. A rugged stretch of wild wetlands, the area is officially known as Parc Naturel Regional de Camargue a protected site to conserve its rich abundance of flora and fauna.

Look out for black bulls and wild horses roaming freely as you head away from the beaten Provencal tourist trail, and then stop in the pretty coastal town of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer. Explore this sleepy capital of the Camargue, soaking up its uniquely Mediterranean ambiance, illustrated by its white-washed houses and paella cooking on the streets. Head inside the towns medieval church glise des Saintes Maries and hear about Ste Sarah, the towns much revered patron saint.

After a tour, enjoy some free time to do as much (or as little!) as you like. Bring your bathing suit and go for a swim in the sea, or arrange with your guide to visit Pont de Gau Ornithological Park to see the regions famous pink flamingos (own expense).

Meet your guide at the pre-arranged time, and return to Aix in the comfort of your air-conditioned minibus. Your tour finishes in the early evening at the start point.

10 Traveler Reviews

  • Main selling point of this tour is the flamingos. Unfortunately we only saw about 8 of them from 1km away. The stops to see the brumbys and black bulls were close and interesting. Driving through the wetlands and salt flats was quite relaxing and the clouds and blue skies are something else.

  • We had less time in Camargue than I expected. We left some people to Arles so that propably took the time. There was no speak about horseriding and no time for it though advertised.

  • Very good trip . Tyleen Travel driver and guide excellent . Really enjoyed the half day tour . Would have liked a couple of hours in the town of St Marie de la Mer but still a good tour

  • I really enjoyed this tour, even though there was a screaming child in our car all the way back to Aix. The tour operator was very sweet and knowledgeable about the area. She even found a way for me to ride a horse for an hour while others did the sea or bird park...I really appreciated her effort! Thank you!!! I think making this an option for other going forward would be beneficial as there is a place right beside the bird sanctuary.

  • Perhaps Aigues Mortes would be better stop than Stes. Maries de la Mer. Pont de Gau bird park is a good place to stop for an hour or more.

  • I loved the walk through the bird park and the trip to the church

  • The Parc Naturele and the trip to the nearby town was great. Loved the flamingos.
Cedric was very pleasant company and made the tour friendly and informative.

  • Very nice tour indeed. A wonderful guide, a pleasant drive, splendid scenery and interesting sights, including a church with St. Sarah, who seems to be the patron saint of the Gypsies (her relics were on display.)

  • The tour was only an afternoon, I think the Camargue deserved longer. We spent an hour or so at the bird sanctuary, 2 or 3 would have been better. The driver was very pleasant and knowledgable, spoke good English and the mini-bus was first class. Value for money was good.

  • Both Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Parc Ortnithologique de Pont de Gau were so lovely. If time allows I would recommend to stay longer at the parc
