Know More about this tour

The snorkel tour begins with a boat ride to the "Silent Evolution" site off Isla Mujeres. You'll then have 40 minutes of snorkel time to enjoy the museums sculptures and the marine life that will swim your way. Then, another boat ride will take you back to the Cancun marina. A perfect way to start your day!

The newest and most spectacular addition to Cancun, the Underwater Sculpture Museum is an under-sea sculpture gallery of more than 500 figures. The monumental underwater sculptural museum was established in the surrounding waters of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc in 2009 by British artist Jason DeCaires Taylor. The project has sparked great interest worldwide and will be an ongoing project for years to come.

The main body of the museum is called "The Silent Evolution" and consists of 500 life-size figures molded in pH neutral clay. The main goal of the museum is preservation, so the clay promotes marine growth to form a complex structure inhabited and colonized by various forms of marine life. Eventually coral reef will form on each sculpture, making them change appearance over time.

The total museum installation occupies over 1,600 sq. feet (150 sq. meters) and weighs over 120 tons, and will one day form an artificial ecosystem where various fish and marine mammals will thrive.

  • Wow! It was a fabulous snorkeling adventure and I will cherish the memories forever of our experience exploring and seeing the beautiful colorful tropical fish of all sizes and the underwater museum was amazing and could not believe my eyes at how incredible it looked. I loved the little house and the beetle bug and the many other pieces of art. Our guide was sweet and very attentive to our needs when called upon. The three member Aqua world crew was professional and great fun to be with on our journey to the Underwater Museum. What a fantastic time my family and I had enjoying that day of snorkeling and the speed boat was fun too! Thank you all for giving me and my family a safe and wonderful experience in Cancun, Mexico 2017.

  • What an awesome experience. The boat ride was exhilarating and the underwater museum was incredibly beautiful. Our guide, Anna, was top notch in every way. She made our family trip, extra special. I highly recommend this wonderful tour.

  • i was a bit ill-prepared for this but it was good! it's hard to see the actual museum statues unless you're properly equipped.

  • Did this tour through Aqua World. We were out on a boat with a glass bottom, cool! That day the seas were rough but snorkeling was still great. 5 people on our boat had a little trouble with the waves but there were 2 guides and one driver that stays with the boat to pick you up that are in the water with you, very safe. The statues are a bit of a swim from one another, but with life jackets on it's very doable, even without experience. We then went to an area that was very easy to swim and saw lots of fish, that was almost better than the museum. Thought it was great, the guides are very polite and concerned for your welfare. Drinks and snacks on the boat.

  • This museum is over rated! Might not spend the time and money on it...

  • Not for the novice snorkeller. Even with a life jacket, the sea swells can be high, so a certain level of fitness is also required. You get to visit two locations, the second being in a more sheltered area. There were children in our party, 8-10 years old, who managed, as some held onto the tour operator's life bouy and all were accompanied one parent/adult to one child. However, the staff were friendly, they provided free refreshments water and fruit on board the boat and of course you get to to see something very unique.

  • Fun!

  • Snorkelling in the sea was great and looking at the structures
The fish were so pretty in the reef

  • Fun - just the right amount of time too. You don't get as close to the sculptures as the photos lead you to believe though.

  • The water was quite rough when we went out, not the best at snorkelling so found it a little hard. But seeing the statues in the water and all the fish was amazing. The tour guides are really great and they make sure everyone is fine and they spend the time with the people who needed a little more help.
