Know More about this tour

Meet your local guide and small group at a central location near Parque de Español (Spain Park), one of the oldest parks in the city. Learn a bit of history about the area, crossing the street for a close-up view of the Yellow House — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — before continuing on foot to the National Liquor Factory. Your guide shares snippets about these 19th-century landmarks before you make your trip out of town.

Follow your guide on a 10-minute hike up into the hills of San Jose until arriving at the Atlantic Railroad, where you’ll hop on a train to Cartago. This scenic 45-minute journey takes you past the university campus and further into the mountains through local coffee plantations.

When you reach Cartago, hop on your bike and coast through the streets of this beautiful city, learning all about its history along the way. Your guide makes regular stops at colonial landmarks to fill you in on the background of this historical Costa Rican town, where you'll be among many locals who get around by bicycle.

Finish up at the Central Market, where you can brush shoulders with the locals and sample the cuisine, gaining plenty of insight from your guide on regional foods and flavors. • Amazing is right - wonderful day spent with an excellent tour guide, Vinicio! Did a train ride, bicycle ride around Cartago, then a local bus ride back to San Jose. Got to visit the local market in Cartago, as well as the wonderful cathedral there. Vinicio is a wealth of knowledge and information about the area, history and culture, and his love for his country is extremely evident throughout the tour. What a lovely experience for my first time to Costa Rica! A special bonus was sampling thebest empanadas in Cartago made fresh by Rolando and Angelina in the market!

  • Natalie my tour guide was exceptional. She took me around to a few sites in San Jose before our very scenic train ride through the country side to Cartago. She shared with my a local desert on the way and we talked about the culture of Costa Rica. Once in Cartago, we had a brief visit to a local art gallery and then went on our way on a beautiful bike ride through the city center. Afterwards, we visited the local market and we visited various stalls.. the best being the most delicious bean empanadas I've ever had. Natalie was knowledgeable, funny, engaging, helpful and an excellent tour guide and host.

  • Natalie was nice, interesting train ride between cities, bike tour itself was on a sidewalk/path in heavy traffic, not enjoyable.

  • Carolina was great. She is very informative. We had a bit of a tour around San Jose which we appreciated. The train was a great experience. Open air and a fun ride. Very disappointed in the bikes. Had to walk the tour as couldn't ride the bikes. We loved the market and the empanada. It was the best.

  • Nice tour! Our tour guide did well teaching us about history and culture of Costa Rica. The Basilica was something I was not expecting. I did not know such remarkable place existed in Cartago. The empanada in the market place was a joy. The local corn made a big difference in the empanada's flavor. The only change I could see for the tour is to make it a little longer.

  • My wife and I had a great time on this trip. Juergen, our guide was well informed and shared all his knowledge about Costa Rica. We loved his enthusiasm and love for his country. When we arrived in Cartago, our bikes were waiting for us. We also met Eric the owner of Urban adventures who dropped us back in our hotel in Eskazu. I would highly recommend this trip as well as other trips organized by Urban. The trip lasted just under 5 hours and we had rest of the day to check out San Jose and other points of interest. Pura Vida!

  • Bring water!!! Our tour guy was excellent! He had so much knowledge and was so proud about his country it was great. The ride was a little intense but worth it, views were incredible.

  • This was an amazing tour that allowed me to learn about and see many parts of Costa Rican culture e.g., commerce, religion, transportation, food, education, social structure, political climate, history, and language. The guide Jurgen and his assistant were tremendously helpful and communicated well in English. They were even curious to learn about the U.S. After a little while, I honestly felt like I was hanging out with my buddies. This trip is for anyone who is not dissuaded by a small amount of physical activity. Thanks for making this a great adventure guys!

  • You need to do a better job describing the bike ride on the tour. It didn't mention hills and with my bad knees and feet it was very difficult for me going up the hills. I ended up walking on that part and slowing everyone in the group down. I feel you need to make two different tours. One for the young and in shape person who can handle the hills on the bike ride and one that is for Seniors and the disabled. A tour for Seniors and disabled could go without the bike ride and spend more time in the shops and market place. I feel by the end of the bike ride we didn't have much time to explore the shops or marketplace. Also when you are on the bike ride it limits the conversation with the tour guide to find out information about Cartago. Our guides were very nice and informative when they could be, but as I said once your on the bikes its difficult to talk and ask questions. The church was very beautiful.
    Thank you,
