Overview

Learn about the great architectural landmarks of Michigan Avenue and State Street. The 40 years between 1890 and 1930 saw the creation of some of Chicagos the most memorable buildings, many of which are featured on this tour.

After the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, Chicago was determined to become a great cultural and commercial metropolis. This tour is a testament to that era's ambitions. See buildings by Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, Holabird and Roche and other noted architects and hear the stories behind the city's architectural gems.

As a certified nonprofit, all CAC ticket purchases directly support our education efforts and community engagement projects.

My husband and I just spent a very memorable 2+ hours touring a sample of our city’s architectural gems. Howard guided us and was so friendly and knowledgeable, telling so many fascinating stories and history! The Chicago Architecture Center offers so much to explore and we’re coming back soon!

Another great tour by The Chicago Architecture Society. Our docent volunteer guide was Janet. She did an excellent job in guiding us through our walk together, and keeping us out of the sun!!! She also made special accommodations for a member of the group that was in a wheelchair. She was very kind and concerned that everyone would enjoy all the highlights of the tour. I strongly recommend!!!

I took this walking tour with David yesterday, and he was filled with interesting insights, facts and perspectives on the evolving architecture of the Chicago Loop. It was a really small group, so lots of interactions. I highly recommend taking this 90 minute walking tour! Also, you get free admission to the Chicago Architecture Center, which currently has 2 excellent exhibitions that are well worth seeing.

I had an amazing experience with the Chicago Architecture Center on my visit to Chicago this month. My spouse and I decided to take the River Cruise our first day in the city and it was awesome, our guide Claudia was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The next day I had some downtime alone and decided to book a last minute walking tour called Historic Treasures of Chicago and I am so glad I did! I happened to be the only person on the walking tour, and my guide Barbara went above and beyond on educating me and answering all my questions. She knew so much about the city and she and I had the best time exploring the beautiful architecture of the Golden Age. It was definitely the highlight of my trip - Thank you Barbara! Don't miss taking a tour with the CAC, you won't regret it!

The Palmer Hotel was magnificent! The Wrigley Building and the Macy's building, the metal work outside of Target, all great stuff. Our tour guide Peter was a joy. A Chicago native, he was very knowledgeable about the city and his enthusiasm was contaigous. We also stood outside Millennium Park as Peter explained how the land that the park was built on, became available. Tour is recommended.
