Know More about this tour

Your day trip to Chichen Itza begins in style: enjoy pickup from your Playa del Carmen hotel in a luxurious Mercedes-Benz van, and catch a few more minutes of sleep on a reclining leather seat. Travel directly to Chichen Itza and meet your guide at Mayaland Resort, conveniently located inside the archeological park.

Bypass the crowds of visitors waiting in line to enter the park, and follow your guide through Mayaland’s private entrance. During your two-hour tour of Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, learn about the site’s central section from the classic period, the northern area from the Toltec age and the daily life of this pre-Columbian society.

Listen to your guide explain the archaeological, historical and cultural significances of the site’s most revered temples and the Mayans’ strong interest in astronomy, most notably evident in the Kukulcan Pyramid. This four-sided structure contains 365 steps, the number of days in the solar year. If you happen to visit during equinox on a clear day, you’ll see what appears to be a snake slithering down the pyramid stairs, a shadow created by the setting sun. Look up at the pyramid’s apex and see if you can spot the carving of a serpent. Inside the pyramid, which was built on top of an older edifice, make your way down steep stairs to a hidden chamber and face the growling Throne of the Jaguar.

Walk through the gathering place of the Temple of the Warriors, as well as the ball court, observatory, sacred Xtoloc Cenote (swimming not allowed), and nunnery. After visiting the major archeological ruins, your guide leaves you to explore and imagine on your own how the Mayans lived in Chichen Itza. When you need a break, jump back to the present day and enjoy the modern world by returning to Mayaland Resort, a Condé Nast Traveler magazine winner and long-time National Geographic favorite. Enjoy a lunch buffet that includes a vast array of international, Mexican and Yucatecan cuisine.

Take a dip in the resort pool, meander through the 100-acre (40.5-hectare) tropical botanical gardens and observe colorful birds and iguanas. At any time, feel free to revisit the archeological park on your own, or head to Viator's hospitality suite for a relaxing time at the resort. Your day trip ends with return to your Playa del Carmen hotel.

Be Maya Planetarium upgrade option:
Before returning to your Playa del Carmen hotel in the late evening, stop by Be Maya Planetarium, where you'll hear tales of ancient Mayan civilization. As you watch the swirling starry sky of the planetarium, learn about Mayan mythology and this society’s amazing accomplishments in astronomy, science and art.

  • I was very pleased with this tour. The van was comfortable and the group was small as promised. We did arrive at Mayaland and did enter Chichen Itza after much needed pit stops. Our tour guide was excellent and Chichen Itza was amazing. We had lunch at Mayaland afterwards. I took one star off because I thought the food was good, not excellent. They also charge extra for all beverages. I could understand charging for alcoholic beverages, but sodas should have been included. The planetarium was nice, but walking around Mayaland would have been nice to do as well. The tour ended with the Cenote tour and swim. This was the nicest Cenote that I have seen. Overall, I would recommend taking this tour.

  • Chichen Itza is a must see attraction if you are in PDC, Cozumel or Cancun... You'll learn a lot about the impressive Maya Civilization and the importance of their discoveries for the world as we know today.

The van was a MB very clean and comfortable , and the driver was very kind. The tour guide was a Maya descendant and demonstrated a good knowledge about Mayan history.

Viator is awesome too! I was in Cozumel for diving, and decide in the last day to make the tour. They were able to arrange it less than 12 hours before the tour. Nevertheless, I do not recommend you doing this. You'll probably need to call the local agenci Mayaland at 6:00 am, let then know about your late booking and arrange the van pick-up. As I was in Cozumel, and took the 7am ferry to PDC and arrived at 7:45 at the pier. The van driver was waiting for me at the front of Sr Frogs!

  • This trip was amazing!

  • 1st class tour, so glad we booked this trip.
The guide and driver were both friendly and informative.
The chance to relax by the pool before the long trip back to the hotel was great, and made the whole day even more enjoyable

  • We had a great tour despite some rain in the afternoon. Juan Carlos, our guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were picked up promptly at 7:15 for the trip to Chitzen Itza and were back by 6 p.m.. The buffet lunch at the hotel after the morning tour was very good and we had plenty of time to relax at the hotel or go back into the site to see more things. Unfortunately it was raining so our options were a bit more limited but certainly not the fault of the tour company. I would definitely recommend this tour to friends and family visiting the area.

  • We was collected from our hotel in Maya on time. The drive is long from Riveria Maya approx 3hours. I really thought we would of swam in the Cenote. In fact we didnt even got shown the Cenote. The expert Guide Maurice was very informative and theatrical with his advice. The buffet lunch was average. There was a show put on by the locals when we ate our lunch. We went to the planterium..There is a warning with this excursion..The guide Maurice was making the other tourist pay thier entrance to the Chichen Itza and to the Planterium. This was already included as stated on the voucher which we showed. He then said he would get our tickets. But he only did that for us as we questioned him about it. There is no need to take swim wear as there is not much time to use the facilities at the Mayaland hotel.

  • This was a fantastic tour and I would highly recommend it. We ŵere picked up exactly on time and travelled to Chichen Itza in a comfortable mini bus. The tour group was quite small - only 10 in total - so it felt like a more personal experience. Quite a long drive to Chichen Itza - just over 3 hours - by the time we had picked up at 3 other hotels. The guide helped make the journey go faster as he gave us a history of the area as we travelled.

Chichen Itza was amazing, and no queueing. We used a private entrance but also got there just ahead of the big tour groups so it never felt too busy. Our guide took us round and talked us through the different buildings and we never felt rushed.

After lunch at Mayaland hotel we were given option of more free time at Chichen Itza or to go for a swim at a local cenote. The whole group chose to go to the cenote so we headed off for a refreshing swim to cool down after a hot morning walking through the ruins. A great way to cool off ahead of the journey back !

All in all, an excellent trip that I would thoroughly recommend.

One thing that could be improved that isn't made clear before you book. After booking online you need to phone up the tour organiser to arrange the pick-up from your hotel. After being asked to specify the hotel during the booking process I was surprised that I'd need to do this - I just expected pick up time to be confirmed as part of the booking process. When I did phone the tour organisers - it took several attempts to get through as lens were busy - I to make three different calls before the person was able to confirm they had my booking and what the pick up time was. The first two promised to call me back after being unable to find my details but never did.
